Unison Technology: The Genuine Sound of Neve, API & Manley Preamps

Apollo Twin features two Unison-enabled mic preamps, letting you track through exacting mic preamp emulations from Neve, API, Manley, and Universal Audio. An Apollo exclusive, Unison technology nails the tone of these sought-after tube and solid state mic pres — including their input impedance, gain stage “sweet spots,” and the component-level circuit behaviors of the original hardware.

The secret to Unison is its hardware-software integration between Apollo Twin’s mic preamps and its onboard UAD-2 DUO Core DSP Acceleration. Simply place a Unison preamp plug-in on your mic input, and tap into the classic sounds of the world’s most recorded mic preamps.

Analog Processing Onboard

Right out of the box, Apollo Twin provides a suite of incredible analog emulation plug-ins including the world’s only authentic Teletronix LA-2A, 1176LN, Pultec EQs, and the Unison-enabled UA 610-B Tube Preamp. Developed by UA’s world-renowned team of algorithm engineers, these Realtime Analog Classic plug-ins set the standard by which all other hardware emulation plug-ins are judged.

From the tube warmth of the Pultec EQ on guitars, to the gentle limiting of the LA-2A on vocals, your recordings will take a giant leap forward in rich, sonically complex analog sound.

Access the World of UAD Powered Plug-Ins

Beyond the included Realtime Analog Classics plug-ins, Apollo Twin lets you tap into the full library award-winning UAD Powered Plug-Ins — including vintage EQs, Compressors, Reverbs, Tape Machines and more — at near-zero latency, regardless of your audio software’s buffer size and without taxing your computer’s CPU.

With exclusive emulations from Neve, Studer, Manley, API, Ampex, Lexicon, Fender, and more, it’s like having an endless analog studio, right on your desktop. And unlike competing interfaces, these DSP-powered plug-ins are also available in your DAW for mixing.

Next-Generation A/D and D/A Conversion

Of course, the heart of any audio interface is the quality of its conversion. With the highest dynamic range and lowest noise of any desktop interface, Apollo Twin gives you stellar 24-bit/192 kHz sound and breathtaking clarity. Its premium Unison mic preamps, input stage, and audio conversion are identical to the famed Apollo series, translating into rich three-dimensional recordings with exceptional depth and punch.

twin sets benchmark

twin w thunderbolt sets benchmark for mobile pro recording. I have a quad rack mount with firewire as well but I think the new twin is better ... is that possible? Could it be the connector to the computer? I am very comfortable recording vocals for records on this unit. My only wish would be two headphone outputs... one for the singer, one for the producer.

Apollo Twin Thunderbolt Review

It is great. Very solid and intuitive in use. Preamps make a difference. I strongly recommend this device. I'm a keyboard/piano/moog player and two inputs are great. I tested Api Vision, Neve 88RS and Neve 1073 Preamps and they are game- changer.

Worst Experience

I know this is personal, but i bought mine brand new and used it for 3 days until the unit just died, since i purchased the unit in another country the 1 year warranty don't apply so i had to take it to service, has been 2 weeks without the interface (wich i use for work). Sadly this is my first and last purchase i will do to UAD.

New to UA but So Good So Far

This is my first purchase of a UA product. I bought this interface based on the recommendation of a Guitar Center Pro Audio rep. I pretty much paid list priced for this, which is kind of ridiculous for a retail store. No deal what so ever. It was a snap to hook up. The download, installation, and setup was fairly quick. It is different beast compared to my Focusrite, Tascam, M-Audio, Mbox 3, Echo, and etc. interfaces. I do think my sound through this interface is a little bit better, but I have not had time yet to dig deep into the functionality and production work to really get a good barometer of what it can do, and how well it compares.

BIG UPGRADE FROM DUET 2

The Twin Duo TB ADC is significantly better than the Apogee Duet 2 that it has replaced. Daniel in customer support is possibly the best support person I have dealt with on any purchase. I am a new UA user but already I'm on board with the plug ins. Will be purchasing the Manley Voxbox, Neve 1073, Ampex ATR-102, and 3 others with my 6 plug in bundle. Overall excellent value for money.

Perfect match for artists and small home studios

From build quality, through ease of use to audio quality, this interface is just amazing and an incredible value!
Unison and the fact that I can record through plugins is a huge deal for me. I currently only have the 610 pre that comes free with the unit, but it sounds fantastic and I use it on everything... I don't have any experience with the original hardware unit, but I really don't care about it as long as what I got sounds so good.
I truly think that no other unit on the market comes close to the value of the Twin. It packs so much in such high quality and the price is just fair...

Apollo Twin ROCKS.

It's been perfect and sounds great!
A little bit of a learning curve compared to other interfaces, but worth it.
I would definitely recommend it.

It gets hot!

I wonder how hot the unit is supposed to get, it get's really hot, and I question if it will still be in one piece after a year. The sound is great nonetheless.

Excellent, very satisfied! Best Interface for the money

I bought the Apollo for use in home studio, especially for demo recording – I am a guitarist in a rock band. I have experiences (and own/ed) with Two Notes Torpedo and Kemper, but like the Apollo for convenience a lot. The recording of guitar (and voice) is very easy – very smooth and stable workflow – and the playing feel is very good. The sound of plugins (that I use ie Friedmann, Tube Screamer, Studer ...) is simply top! At first it seems that the price is high (this is a reason that I waited so long to buy it), but when I compare how fast I can get top results now, I would say worth the price. Also monitoring through Apollo (or playing mp3) is a top league, I really notice how much better I can hear the music now.

You'll like this. Buy one.

I've used several different brands of audio interface. Some of them were very good indeed. None are a match for my Twin thunderbolt. Well-built, well-designed and easy to use, it just sounds good and makes recording both easier and a pleasure. The plugins are great and I look forward to building up my collection.

Support for Studio One could improve and I am sure that it will now that so many people are using that DAW. UA seems to be the kind of company who respond to user needs. However, setup and basic usage is easy.

I have been bowled over by the sound and the impact on my CPU means more power left for other DAW functions.

Just buy one. They're great.
