Incredible interface...

Rock Solid. Beautiful Design. Incredible Sound. Does everything I need and then some. I can record to my computer, and route audio out to my phone patch and ISDN box and send wet/dry mixes wherever I need, AND monitor in real-time. It's absolutely perfect for my voiceover business...and is easy to use to boot. Can't wait to get another one for my home studio!

What I've been waiting for!

When I received February's SoundonSound, there it was on page 8 the 'Epic Twin'!
Within two days I logged on to Sweetwater and placed my order for APOLLO-TWIN-SOLO!
I've been running with Avid/Digi M-Box 3 Pro Firewire since 2009 and have recently acquired Apogee's One for iOS, and I can say that the Apollo-twin a beats them hands down... A simple comparison by playing back files through iTunes relieved a silky openness, a solid low end, and even a significant lessening of mid range frequency fatigue when listening with headphones.
I've just started migrating Apollo Twin to my recording sessions running Pro-tools 10. I spent little time getting things setup between AT- and PT and was able to navigate and setup UA's console app in no time

Amazing sound quality

I've been using various audio interfaces the past few years (Focusrite Saffire, Mbox, 003 rack with BLA signature mod) and just picked up the Apollo Twin a couple days ago. This unit sounds beautiful compared to the previous consumer interfaces I have owned. The standard plug ins that are included are also top notch. This system makes a great addition to my small project studio and pairs well with my new iMac.

Brilliant Product

Kudos to UA, yet again, for having brilliant product vision and execution. Obvious market demand for the Twin and they really did so much right in the execution that makes it a wonderful addition for me.

Portable. Powerful. Excellent quality across the board.

But, UA, please consider including the Thunderbolt cable. I knew it wasn't included so had one available, but a real PITA for folks.

Good hardware but somes bad things

Super annoying is that u cannot turn of the "demo" plugs from the drop down list of plug ins...

the twin comes with 5 or 6 plugs i believe...but the list is like 100 ... so it's super confusing to select the ones which are licensed...this is aggressive sales tactics, and puts a stain on the brilliant hardware.please release an update for this UA.

Very useful, but missing some important features

I have worked the last 20 years in high end commercial studios. Now because of the bad economy, especially in the music business, I've set up a project studio at home. The Apollo Twin duo gives great results. It's pre amps are quite nice. Even better if you use their plugin emulations that they offer, but unfortunately cost separately, and are quite expensive, like the Neve 1073. If I were to change anything, it would be to come with a thunderbolt cable included in the price, plus let the buyer choose the plugins that come standard with the Apollo. Some that come with it, I'm not very impressed with and will never use them. Why not let us custom choose six plugins that would come standard in the price of the Apollo?

A Title

The Apollo Twin is my first entry into the Apollo and UAD plugin world and it has been a welcomed change. It seems to be well built and I've enjoyed being able to track through many of the best sounding plugins I've heard. I will try to keep this as mainly a Twin review so I'm not going to go into a detailed review of their plugins but I will say I have invested over $10k in competitors plugins before this switch and I've been increasingly unhappy with the majority of them sound wise. They all seem to smear and cloud the source audio and have the same lack luster sound. UAD plugins changes things for sure!

There are some things however that I wish were different. The lack of a second thunderbolt port is a big deal if you're on a MacBook with only one port

Something I have been looking for

The Apollo twin is a great combination of hardware and software, versatile in use
especially together with my mac air it is really doing a great job that sometimes lets me forget all the big machines. Maybe it does not yet replace these, but the difference becomes smaller and smaller. Especially for this I like the apollo twin and it is the best choice I made in the last couple of years. By the way, the thunderbolt connection works surprisingly efficient.

Great Audio Interface, But would be nice to have MIDI I/O & ADAT out option also

I love Universal Audio products they all are great quality, and the Apollo Twin is no different. It has great sound quality along side with the build quality is awesome and feels very solid. The ability to record with UAD Plugins in such a small package & use it for DSP processing while mixing is great, that separates this interface from any other interface thats close to its price range in such a small foot print. The only downside is, I think it should have included MIDI I/O and ADAT out along side the ADAT in. Other than that this is a great interface.

Amazing

I am very happy with my Apollo Twin!
I can literally heard the difference in sound quality with my previous converter.
When my previous interface would distort, the Apollo has head-room for days!
The preamp sounds so clean! I am not exaggerating!
Really nice!
I just wish the plugins could run natively as well so that when I'm travelling and don't have power I can still check out a mix and make adjustments without using my apollo on my laptop. But I won't be using any other interface to connect to my monitors - This unit is sick! :-)

UA Apollo Twin Review

It's been amazing with no problems. Amazing Sound quality, small, compact and sexy as hell.

There's only one problem that I have with it. It's great being able to trail so many plug-ins and be given a few BUT... I use pro-tools and when I go to use plug-ins it'll come up with about another 10-15 plug-ins from UA whether I have bought it or not. This makes it difficult to actual find the plug-ins that UA has given me making me go through a bunch of them sometimes just to find mine.

Is there some way I can just have the plug-ins I have and not like 20 other ones when I search for a plug-in?

Thanks, James Winthrop :)

Great possibilities.

Great hardware and software. Some of the best plugins I've heard, period. Unfortunately I'm not wealthy and can't afford to upgrade the plugins enough to get anywhere near the full effect. Not happy that the supplied native compressors are chum when I can afford the better ones, that really pains someone on my budget. The doubler, Ampex tape, and plate reverb, being included would have made this package much more usable. It's like admiring attractive women, I'm appreciating from a distance. Planning to use it live but will have to wait until a few more plugs are in reach. If you have the funds I suggest buying as much UA hardware as you can afford. I will be jealous of you. Buy one, if you want one.

Joining the UAD family, that was something I had in mind for about a year now. I also wanted a new Audio Interface, because my old ones latency was Trying my patience sorely, and beside that I was very unhappy with its audioquality. My problem back then was, that the big Apollo Interfaces overshot my needs in term of In- and Outputs and, that the Satellite got the lack of an Audio Interface. So sadly no option that fitted my needs.
Tata. UAD introduced the Apollo Twin. You can run UAD-PlugIns, same audioquality, same processor, the Console, the 610, Unison, Thunderbolt, just reduced its Shape. Fits my needs perfectly.
I bought a Duo. Sooner or later you will be unhappy with a Solo, if you plan to expand your UAD-PlugIn library.

My Experience So Far

I've had my Apollo Twin Duo for 1 month. I've used it 4 times and yesterday I brought it to be the centerpiece for an acoustic project I'm doing and when I turned in it on; nothing. It will not pass audio or receive it, I tried everything under the sun to fix it, software reset/downgrade/update, hardware reset, new thunderbolt cable, and OS update. All the lights will turn on but it's now a pretty looking silent box. Spent time on the phone the customer service who were great but had no solutions and I am still left with having to pay to send it in for replacement. It lasted 4 uses and then broke? Come on, there should be some compensation if a UA product fails this quickly not a charge to get it replaced. Just my thoughts.

Could have been a 5

Solid construction, great converters, awesome preamps, perfect for a DAW based gigging musician. The only thing that takes this from a 5 to a 2 is the absence of a 2nd thunderbolt port to daisy chain more gear!! Very frustrating!!

Yes, but...

As we know, all your stuff goes out of date and then you have to get all new stuff. When I endured the most recent of these interesting transitions--probably about my 20th over 40 years! -- my tech recommended the Apollo Twin. This seemed to fit my current needs -- I'm working mostly with synths and samples with an occasional non-virtual instrument soloist. I really only need one or two mic inputs. And there were all those great plug-ins!

Well, think again. The plug-ins are great alright, but you'll run out of DSP almost immediately after you begin to use them. For instance: with a Apollo Twin solo you'll have enough DSP for one channel, not two! That's it. Out of gas.

weak processors (processadores fracos)

The hardware is really beautiful and the sound quality is very good!
But the processors are very weak or UAD plugins are very heavy.
I can not run many instances of plugins.
I bought the DUO ... imagine if it was SOLO!
For the price it should also work on WIndows

Doesn't work with uad satellite

So upset I rushed and bought this unit. Such a great interface and was hoping to add my uad satellite quad to beast up my system. I called tech support and was told not to expect an update for compatibility for 3 to 4 months. Why would they put this out if you can't use it with existing uad gear? Sux..... :/
