Super frustrated

I bought the Apollo Twin because I love my Apollo Quad and want to be able to use the UAD plugins outside the studio.
I missed this in the Apollo Twin FAQ:

I own an Apollo (or Apollo 16). Can I use Apollo Twin on the same computer?

Not currently. Future releases will allow software for a Thunderbolt-equipped Apollo or Apollo 16 to be installed at the same time as Apollo Twin software, but the different Apollo models will not be able to be connected at the same time.

That means I can't use my Apollo Twin until the new soft are is released in Q2.
I wish UA would have made it possible to use the Apollo Twin with the older software upon it's initial release. I think it would have been a nod to existing Apollo users. Instead, we got zip.

The same thing.. Got it 10 days ago! How can i fix it?

"by E. Gettinger . 1 out of 5 stars

I've had my Apollo Twin Duo for 1 month. I've used it 4 times and yesterday I brought it to be the centerpiece for an acoustic project I'm doing and when I turned in it on; nothing. It will not pass audio or receive it, I tried everything under the sun to fix it, software reset/downgrade/update, hardware reset, new thunderbolt cable, and OS update. All the lights will turn on but it's now a pretty looking silent box. Spent time on the phone the customer service who were great but had no solutions and I am still left with having to pay to send it in for replacement. It lasted 4 uses and then broke? Come on, there should be some compensation if a UA product fails this quickly not a charge to get it replace

The first Apollo twin I got from Digital Village had a piece of metal stuck in Line 1 which meant I couldn't insert a cable.

The replacement unit was clearly second hand - the box had been opened and the unit as well as the insert card had fingerprints all over it.

Needless to say I got a refund and I am now waiting to read some more reviews before re-purchasing an Apollo Twin.

Overpriced Sales Gimic

Let me first say that I've owned and worked with nearly a dozen different audio interfaces since the 1990s. So this is not my first time around the block.
First impressions: I pulled the unit out of the box and found that an expensive unit of this caliber, with the "UA" name on it is Made in China. That was sad to see.
Then I pulled out the flimsy, cheap Radio Shack power supply that looks like it won't last more than a year, if you're lucky. Unbelievable.
And then, to add insult to injury, they don't even bother to give you a disc of software or manual. Not even a connection cord! Even my cheapest Behringer came with all that stuff, and a better power supply.
Then, the software didn't work!
The sound: just average.
This is just sad!

Doesn't works well! I want to sell mine! Would take my money back!

I live in Brazil. A country where we pay much more expensive prices than other contries of the world! Our taxes are so high and our products are the worst! So I bought a new computer (iMac) with thunderbolt port only for my Apollo Twin One. After one week I tried to record three times using Logic Pro IX. Sometimes I try to use only one plugin just like UAD Precision Maximizer. Read again: ONE plugin. What happen? This message:
One or more UAD Powered Plug-Ins have been disabled.
The plug-in was unable to load.
DSP load limit exceeded.

I would take my money back if it was possible but in my country people are different. They don't worry about their business. I have to try another way.

I won't buy this again if I could.

Not working with dual Monitor!

On my Macbook Pro Mid 2013 i can't use my dual Monitor setup.
Every time i connect my external screen, the Apollo twin will disconnect and stop the sound. Bad Drivers... :-(

I can't under stand why Universal Audio release the Apollo like that.

First look

Hi, today my Apollo Twin Duo arrived.
Since my Macbook Pro is still on it´s way, here is a first impression.
Cool, somewhat of Apple Style. Brings a smile on your face.
5 of 5
A card with Ray Charles printed on, then the Apollo itself and finally a box with the power adapter.
That´s it. No CD (ok for me) and NO Thunderbolt cable - THAT´S a sin. If it was USB everybody has about 1000 cables at home, but THUNDERBOLT?
30 Bucks for a cable in addition to the 899,00 € - shame on you UA.
There is no voucher or anything else.
Sole for the missing cable:
2 of 5
Build quality:
Heavy, good feel, nice look. Switched it on and a test routine checks the LEDs.
All buttons are good and the jogwheel runs smooth.

More to come

Not Happy

I did purchased the Apollo Twin in hopes that I would have a different set of plugins that I needed for my projects since the Satellite didn't have many plugins. I checked every where on their site and no info about the plugins until I paid my money. I found out that it has the same plugins that my Satellite has, so I just wasted my money by purchasing the same thing. I wish there were more information on the Apollo Twin.

Missed Opportunity

On paper this looks a great product for the bedroom musician/project studio owner. In reality this is a massive missed opportunity by UA by alienating half of their potential userbase. This product would have been perfect for my needs but unfortunately as a PC user it is a complete non starter.
Come on UA lets get a Firewire version of this out there!

I am very disappointed in this product, I own a 6176 channel strip and as far as the
610 unison emulation of the classic mic pre is concerned, forget it - it doesn't even come close, the hardware is much smoother , richer and shows mush more definition to my ears. I bought this item from DV247 and am currently trying to get my back under there 30 day money back guarantee. - wish me luck!

Great product missing the obvious USB port

Great Product. Love the concept. But for some reason - they missed the HUGE USB market for portable recording. That would include the millions with Macs/PC laptops 2010 and older - and portable tablets like Apple iPads (for apps like Auria). Why they skipped this - I'm stumped. In fact USB3 and thunderbolt have same bandwidth.

Sounds amazing! A few drawbacks.

Really flexible. You can get super clean sounds or mic pre saturation from with the unison plug ins. The only drawback is that is hard to navigate the plug ins list while it shows ALL the plugs, even when they are not available. The plugin presets are also difficult to navigate, there should be a drop down menu for presets.

Great Sound...Couple Questions

So far the gear is sounding great.

Questions: I have been experiencing high output levels from different sources, iTunes, Spotify, soundcloud, Mac Finder, and other websites, even Logic Pro seems to be cutting into the -3db (orange) on the twin's meter. With media players like iTunes and Spotify, etc., I can adjust the output volume of the player. But with logic for instance, my levels do not hit above -6db on the master, yet the twin is in the orange.

Is there a control on the console to set a master input /output level to the twin?

At what point on the twins meter does it start affecting the output audio I hear? Is it being clipped at all in the orange?

Is there a sweet spot to aim for on the meter?

Thanks for any info.

Apollo Twin - Back Up your hard drive before installation

I wish I could review my new gear I received over two weeks ago, but immediately after installation, the hard drive on my MacBook Pro crashed. It was theorized by the retailer who sold me the Apollo Twin that the installation exposed an deficiency in my hard drive, thus causing it to crash. Unfortunately, the hard drive needed to be replaced as it was damaged beyond repair.

The MacBook Pro was just returned to me with a new hard dive via Apple Care. Thankfully the computer was still covered. That said, I submitted a support ticket via the UA site over a week ago and still have not heard a word back. It may not be a UA issue, but the installation caused the hard drive crash and I was looking for a little guidance. Hoping it goes better...

Evan McHugh Apollo Twin Duo

Hi ,

I am loving my new Apollo Twin Duo, it makes my wholes rig so mobile, sounds great and gives me access to UAD plug ins... What more could you ask for!!!

My only disappointment with it is that even though it is less than a month old, i didn't get the offer of all the free plug in's you are offering on all new purchases till the end of the year.
I really feel there should be a grace period for the people that bought an Apollo in the last month or two.
I want to get a Thunderbolt Satellite but i think i'll wait till i see a deal.

I do love the Apollo Twin though.. Great Box and my god your plug ins are the best!!

Plugin to much expensive

I have a problem with the soft consolle because when i want to open plugin actived,
The list is complete and you do not distinct the active or not active pluguin.
And more when we pay very expensive for the sound card we wait to have a true package og pluguin free and no just one like this.
For the rest i m very enjoy from the good quality of sound the card made...
