Unison Technology: The Genuine Sound of Neve, API & Manley Preamps

Apollo Twin features two Unison-enabled mic preamps, letting you track through exacting mic preamp emulations from Neve, API, Manley, and Universal Audio. An Apollo exclusive, Unison technology nails the tone of these sought-after tube and solid state mic pres — including their input impedance, gain stage “sweet spots,” and the component-level circuit behaviors of the original hardware.

The secret to Unison is its hardware-software integration between Apollo Twin’s mic preamps and its onboard UAD-2 DUO Core DSP Acceleration. Simply place a Unison preamp plug-in on your mic input, and tap into the classic sounds of the world’s most recorded mic preamps.

A Full Suite of Classic
Analog Processing Onboard

Right out of the box, Apollo Twin provides a suite of incredible analog emulation plug-ins including the world’s only authentic Teletronix LA-2A, 1176LN, Pultec EQs, and the Unison-enabled UA 610-B Tube Preamp. Developed by UA’s world-renowned team of algorithm engineers, these Realtime Analog Classic plug-ins set the standard by which all other hardware emulation plug-ins are judged.

From the tube warmth of the Pultec EQ on guitars, to the gentle limiting of the LA-2A on vocals, your recordings will take a giant leap forward in rich, sonically complex analog sound.

Access the World of UAD Powered Plug-Ins

Beyond the included Realtime Analog Classics plug-ins, Apollo Twin lets you tap into the full library award-winning UAD Powered Plug-Ins — including vintage EQs, Compressors, Reverbs, Tape Machines and more — at near-zero latency, regardless of your audio software’s buffer size and without taxing your computer’s CPU.

With exclusive emulations from Neve, Studer, Manley, API, Ampex, Lexicon, Fender, and more, it’s like having an endless analog studio, right on your desktop. And unlike competing interfaces, these DSP-powered plug-ins are also available in your DAW for mixing.

Next-Generation A/D and D/A Conversion

Next-Generation A/D and D/A Conversion

Of course, the heart of any audio interface is the quality of its conversion. With the highest dynamic range and lowest noise of any desktop interface, Apollo Twin gives you stellar 24-bit/192 kHz sound and breathtaking clarity. Its premium Unison mic preamps, input stage, and audio conversion are identical to the famed Apollo series, translating into rich three-dimensional recordings with exceptional depth and punch.

This sucks if you have a mac pro.

I have a mac pro early 2009, a mac mini and a 2011 macbook pro for travel.

I wanted something portable to replace my apogee ensemble and be able to use my old UA plugs a purchased when I was using an uAD1 card and eventually threw it away my UAD1 card which became obsolete and UA would not grant me an upgrade.

I wanted something to use with all my gear, maybe even buy another Twin. Nein Danke.

I'm so angry.

Im back in the same situation. I bought the twin with thunderbolt and I can't use it on my mac pro unless I upgrade it to a 1013 and on, but will work on a 2011 -2010 macbook pro??

This is insane.

Will there be something that will make the apollo twin useful for us late 1012 - 2009 mac pro users?

Overpriced

Nice Product. No value in the plugins that are bundled. The quality over lets say a product like Apogee Duet is not good enough to warrant an additional $300.00. The two DSP chips are a good thing but than you really need to investigate and then spend more money on the plugins that will take advantage of that feature. Using your DAW will get you the same overlaod messages as any other AI so why spend nearly a grand.

INVESTIGATE WELL BEFORE YOU BUY. I EXPECT TO BE RETURNING MINE LATER THIS WEEK

Mixed Feelings

Pros:
- Strong build
- Good quality pre
- ADAT-in is very useful with my Digimax D8 for external synths and processing.
- Eye Candy design

Cons:
- No Thunderbolt passthrough
- Buggy when trying to send computer audio (iTunes, browers, etc) to a virtual channel.
- Not bus-powered. I understand the Sharc processors need power to work, but it would have been nice to have a DSP bypass to allow bus-powered playback.

Other Thoughts: I'm still waiting for UAD to officially announce compatibility with their PCI-e Octo card.

I wish I would have upgraded sooner!!

I've been in heaven since I upgraded my interface to the UA Apollo twin. The pre amps sound fantastic, ad/da converters make a world of difference in my monitoring as well as listening & mixing on my Audeze LC-X headphones. I've been completely satisfied with the product. My only gripe would be I wish I would have gotten one with more DSP for the plugins. I max out the DSP pretty easily but then I just record and print audio with the plugs on it and then keep moving. The work around isn't to big of a deal. I'm also in love with the plugin's. It's almost just like have all the hardware with how incredible they sound. I highly recommend any and all of UA's products to anyone looking to seriously step up their game and want to get that pro sound.

Fantastic 24/192 Thunderbolt Audio Interface And Mic Pre!

Stunning clarity, warmth, superior reliability and connection via Thunderbolt. Works flawlessly with my MacBook Pro and Logic Pro X. Love having access to the UAD plug-ins for mastering and finishing. I'm an Emmy Award-winning voice actor in LA, and use this mainly for mobile VO recording setups. Fantastic in that capacity, and undoubtedly, many others. Great work, Universal Audio!

A recording studio that fits into a backpack!

Probably the best interface i've ever used. The quality of the sound is impressive. It interacts perfect with my Macbook and Pro Tools. It has never been so easy to record music and make it sound great. A recording studio that fits into my backpack. Thank you Universal Audio. I hope your product will last a long time!

Simple & Clear

I own an Apollo 8p, but wanted something a bit more portable for the road. This unit is great, that same UA sound quality in something I can throw in my backpack. Gives me the options to record in hotel rooms with all the UAD plugs, as well as use reverbs in a live setting when I'm mixing on an analog console.

I highly recommend !

The best interface I've ever owned, the sound is perfect, but additionally recommends buying UAD 2 satellite for a comfortable total work of UAD plug-ins.

Great interface for anyone that doesn't need lots of I/O

The sound quality is phenomenal and it's great to be able to take all my UAD plugins with me when I'm on the move. I'd love a few more I/O but I suppose that's what the Apollo racks are for! Time to get saving...

Polyvalent

I am gonna write my review in french first of all because i am french, secondly because many french musicians are looking for the best affordable sound card.
