This sucks if you have a mac pro.

I have a mac pro early 2009, a mac mini and a 2011 macbook pro for travel.

I wanted something portable to replace my apogee ensemble and be able to use my old UA plugs a purchased when I was using an uAD1 card and eventually threw it away my UAD1 card which became obsolete and UA would not grant me an upgrade.

I wanted something to use with all my gear, maybe even buy another Twin. Nein Danke.

I'm so angry.

Im back in the same situation. I bought the twin with thunderbolt and I can't use it on my mac pro unless I upgrade it to a 1013 and on, but will work on a 2011 -2010 macbook pro??

This is insane.

Will there be something that will make the apollo twin useful for us late 1012 - 2009 mac pro users?

Overpriced

Nice Product. No value in the plugins that are bundled. The quality over lets say a product like Apogee Duet is not good enough to warrant an additional $300.00. The two DSP chips are a good thing but than you really need to investigate and then spend more money on the plugins that will take advantage of that feature. Using your DAW will get you the same overlaod messages as any other AI so why spend nearly a grand.

INVESTIGATE WELL BEFORE YOU BUY. I EXPECT TO BE RETURNING MINE LATER THIS WEEK

Mixed Feelings

Pros:
- Strong build
- Good quality pre
- ADAT-in is very useful with my Digimax D8 for external synths and processing.
- Eye Candy design

Cons:
- No Thunderbolt passthrough
- Buggy when trying to send computer audio (iTunes, browers, etc) to a virtual channel.
- Not bus-powered. I understand the Sharc processors need power to work, but it would have been nice to have a DSP bypass to allow bus-powered playback.

Other Thoughts: I'm still waiting for UAD to officially announce compatibility with their PCI-e Octo card.

Molte difficoltà nell'utilizzo della console/mixer. Inoltre, nel manuale inerente al software della console non sempre le immagini riportate corrispondono al mixer presente sul desktop.

Great interface for anyone that doesn't need lots of I/O

The sound quality is phenomenal and it's great to be able to take all my UAD plugins with me when I'm on the move. I'd love a few more I/O but I suppose that's what the Apollo racks are for! Time to get saving...

Polyvalent

I am gonna write my review in french first of all because i am french, secondly because many french musicians are looking for the best affordable sound card.

Great desk interface with few flaws

The Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo offers more than meets the eye. The unison preamps and DSP may be the biggest selling points, but the preamps in themselves are very nice to record with and offers several great functions. The preamps includes highpass filtering, stereo link and a phase switch just to name a few.

With the optical port, you can expand the inputs from 2 to 10 if you decide to use ADAT. A very nice feature which makes an old interface worth keeping for their preamps.

UAD includes great plugins for mixing and while they are a few years down the line they are still worth using.

The only things I would like to see included in later versions of this interface are two headphone outputs, one is simply not enough. Also an optical out port would make it possible to scale up the size of a recording system by allowing for separate headphone mixes for several musicians. The last thing is in the interface itself, having the choice of having more virtual channels and send the input from channel one to a virtual channel would allow one to record both plugins that are used as well as the dry signal.

Overall, it is a very nice interface with a very nice form factor. The DSP is nice but a bit lackluster. Worth buying if you want a smaller interface but don't want to lose the preamp capability of a 19" interface.

Try it live!

I strapped this bad boy onto the master buss of a PM5D live, with the 1073 and the Fairchild, holy molly!! Can't wait to get the 8P to start a live rig like no other!

Exquisite for mobile recording

I own the Satellite and the Apollo 8 as well. But, for smaller gigs and mobile recording, as they are the same pre-amps, the Apollo Duo has changed my life. It's perfect for on-the-go recording sessions and projects that are quick, easy, and in need of less than 2 channels at the same time. It's perfect!

Expanding my options

I own the Apollo 8P, a quad and octo satellites, the Twin affords me a couple of options. Currently I have the 8P and the quad in one location and the Twin and the octo in another location, so it makes it easy to keep working where ever I am. And when I need the extra DSP, I can just chain them all together.

Great. Wish I had more plugins to try. 13 days demo period is too short. I'm happy to invest.

The best audio interface I have used

Really enjoyed upgrading to the UAD Apollo Twin. I have used several other guitar/mic interfaces in the past with varying levels of satisfaction. However, there are several things I love that the Apollo Twin does best of all:
- Extremely low latency for recording. I have had issues in the past with noticeable latency that annoyed me. Apollo Twin has no noticeable latency.
- Exceptional UAD plugins. Although I want more plugins, the included plugins are a good start. I record with both wet and dry signals into my daw and then have a lot of options when doing my final mix.
- Excellent build quality and feel. A top notch product.

Apollo Twin, with a UAD plugin library, will remain the centerpiece of my home system for years to come.

#ApolloTwinLife

Finally a interface for the home and traveling Audio Engineer that needs an interface to do more than have great PreAmps. The TalkBack is super clean and the monitor options are perfect. Converters are upgraded and you hear it. Do your research but just know you'll be right back here finding a reseller near you.. #MixedByLex
