Female Vocal- The Vocal is getting compressed about 10db on the high peaks, but the vocal still sounds natural. A little Plate 140 was added for ambience (Audio Technica ATM 4050 into a Mackie 1604 VLZ)
Clean Electric Guitar- The relatively slow attack of the LA2A (approx 9ms) lets enough transients of the picking through but compresses the rest of the signal. A little Plate 140 was added for ambience (335-style guitar into 70s Fender Princeton, micd with a ATM 4030 into a UA 6176 tube preamp)
Bass- Like the guitar sample, the LA2A is great for bass since the initial attack of the note is preserved, but the rest of the signal gets compressed (Fender Precision bass direct into a UA 6176 tube preamp).

What is it about the 1176LN and LA-2A that makes them distinctive-sounding? How can the distinctive properties of these compressors be captured in a digital emulation?
