Roland has announced at the show a new DSP processor for their VS recorder series, the VS8F-3, a Motorola 56k-based processor that will run a hand-picked group of third-party manufacturers plug-ins. UA is honored to have been selected by Roland to participate in the program.
What Roland VS recorders are supported?
When the VSF8F-3 ships in March, the new VS-2000, the VS-2400, and the VS-2480 series will be supported. In April, support will be expanded to include the VS-1680, VS-1880 and VS-1824CD.
What UA plug-ins will run on the VS8F-3?
The VS-1176LN and VS-LA2A compressor plug-ins will be available when the VS8F-3 is launched. These products will be called the VS-1176LN and VS-LA2A respectively.
Will other UA plug-ins be supported?
We are in discussions with Roland what other UA plug-ins would be good additions.
What will the price of the VS8F-3 be?
MSRP is $ 395
What will the price of the UA plug-ins be?
The VS-1176LN and VS-LA2A will both have a suggested MSRP of $149. Additionally, a bundle containing both products will have an MSRP of $249.
How will the UA plug-ins for the VS recorders be distributed?
Roland will distribute the UA plug-ins for the VS recorders through their worldwide sales channel
Are there any quality differences between the UA plug-ins on the Roland platform and other platforms UA plug-ins run on?
No. The UA VS plug-ins run the same DSP code as our TDM plug-ins run
How many instances of the plug-ins can you run and at what sample rates?
The VS8F-3 card supports two independent stereo processors or, when the processor uses a lot of DSP power, one stereo processor. The 1176LN will run as one stereo processor, taking up the whole card and at 44.1/48 kHz. We dont know yet if the LA2A will take the whole card and run as one stereo processor, or be available to run as two independent processors. It will run at all supported sampling rates up to 96kHz.. Most VS products have 2 card slots, and the 2480 series has 4 card slots.
