Hobbyist finds this useful for most tracks

    by M. Kinzer . 5 out of 5 stars

I have purchased only three plug-ins for my Apollo, and this one is the best. I'd been waiting for it to come down in price. As a hobbyist, I am pretty stingy with plug-in money. This was well worth the cost though (discounted by December sale, and then with a coupon to boot). I am having great fun with this. When tweaked down a bit, to remove some of the wobbly, there is less fun, but such room for my sounds. Makes a piano sound like its from another planet, yet warm enough to want to wade into the sound while soaking in a warm bath.

    F A N T A S T I C

    by A. Kosinski . 5 out of 5 stars

In 80-th I used Roland RE-2o1 Space Echo with my Mini Moog on stage. Oh! It was fantastic setup! Many last years I dreamed about it. Now it's really possible with RE-201 UAD plug-in. Thank you, Universal Audio.!!!

I own an original RE-201, and I love Universal Audio's plug-in emulations of classic gear, so I was really looking forward to getting this plug-in to make things like BPM matching much easier. However, after doing some comparison tests, I ended up not buying it because I really preferred the sound of the hardware unit (though it sure would be nice to not have such a high noise floor).

You can hear the differences for yourself here, if you'd like:

I still gave it four stars because it's a great-sounding delay plug-in, even though I do prefer the original.

Not in the least bit authentic -please revamp this plug-in

    by P. Sturrock . 1 out of 5 stars

I own an original Roland RE-201 this plug sounds nothing like it (even allowing for tape head wear etc) it doesn't capture the character of the original especially when pushed hard on the repeats. UAD could do with remodelling this classic like they did with the 1176 collection which are now a viable alternative to the real thing. As it stands this is really misleading to market this plug as a Roland RE201.

    MEH meh

    by S. Henry . 3 out of 5 stars

Meh because its definitely not worth $200. Its too simple to cost that much in relation to what you get for that kind of money elsewhere.

This is still my favorite UA delay. It just sounds awesome. The end.

Sounds great! Best tape delay emulation I've heard. But it is a huge, HUGE power HOG.

Rock / Metal / Guitar / Space Delay

    by C. Huseyin . 5 out of 5 stars

The units attitude and sonic texture all points to one fundamental thing: Guitars

Sure, any delay can be used on any potential material, but the question often is - which delay really captures the source?

The unit can also be used to give any material a 'tough' or "Spaced" feel. This should be in your arsenal of potential plug-ins. 5/5

Sounds really good, but it is not very friendly

    by F. Goes . 3 out of 5 stars

    Sounds really good.
But It is not easy to go across the presets, as you have to upload in 2 clicks one by one, instead of the common "one click preset change".
Also it seems you don't have free access to all buttons of the panel, as untill now, it appears to be all linked with presets you can not change by smply moving around.
I'm with it for only a couple of weeks, but this is what it feels so far.

    Such a Great found

    by T. Ruiz . 5 out of 5 stars

I've tried to emulate this delay colors and vintage ambience for so many years. I found it with this amazing emulation of the SpaceEcho. And I loved the additions UA did on this plugin that the original hardware doesn't have. I'm so glad I bought it. I'm using it a lot.

    A Faithful Reproduction

by G. Postorino. 5 out of 5 stars

I can say without a doubt that this plugin could not be a more true representation of what the original hardware units do. The way it breaks up, the characteristics of the reverb, it's all there. A definite no-brainer for anyone in the market for a fabulous delay. I can't think of how many times a fellow engineer or producer has said "man.. I wish we could sync this thing." Now you can! Thanks to the digital era, the temperamental nature of the original units is a welcomed non-issue with this fabulous plugin. UAD hit a grand slam with this one.

Useful in Live and Studio! For me in LIVE ;)

by B. Klukovic. 5 out of 5 stars

As some of the reviewers already stated: the REAL RE-201 sounds different. But hey, I don´t give a fu** about that since it´s a great sounding plugin with nice capabilities. I love the fact that I can have LIVE the sound of a near-sounding Roland Delay without Delay´s *hehe* like the last 2 gigs with a Rock n Roll Cover Band. Surely I could throw some good sounding outboard in my rack to get the same (maybe better) results, but for lead vocals with a Neve 1073 preamp, a 1176LN and the Space Echo and everything with only the apollo patched to the inserts of my desk... Come on people, stop ranting about nearly real sounding plugins and give some props to UA for virtually LATENCY-FREE and nice nearly real sounding plugins! Good Job UA :)

    Great plug-in

by J. Moncho. 4 out of 5 stars

Great plug-in and good emulation: part of the original warmth has been captured. It's a fantastic versatile plug-in with smart additions from UA that the original hardware doesn't have.

I know purists will say that the original is better. Ok, I am one of those that thinks it's almost impossible to emulate with software the original hardware equipment but, it does not require maintenance and for this price (I've purchased it with a considerable price reduction in the last summer reduction sale) this is a considerable effort from UA in order to achieve the best.
