Very useful

Almost acts like a gate, and can really give drums more punch.

Quite useful

Never tried the hardware version. I have had success with this thing on individual drums, where it has helped bring certain elements fwd in the mix by differential emphasis on transient and body. Warning: I've learned to best set it while listening to the whole mix and not to the individual track, as some guitars for example might sound better with this thing on their own, only to be obviously over-treated when playing back a mix. I do not regret the purchase, would purchase again.

right tool to clean up drum overheads

I bought this especially because i needed more attack on ride cymbal and less sustain. Changed the drums from 'tshhh tshhh tshhhh' to 'tzig tzig tzig'. If you're into jazz, you might now what I mean:-) A small tool that should be in any producer's toolbox.

Good tool

Don't use it often but it's good. Mostly used to cut down too prominent pick sounds of the guitar. But yes, you should have one. Doesn't affect the rest of the sound at all.

Subtle enhancements

I find the hardware easier to be subtle, and that's the main difference between hardware and software. Because I have to engage with my mouse and my eyes, I find it takes more concentration to be subtle with this plugin.

IF, your drums are well recorded, a subtle touch is magic.
IF, you're trying to fix shoddy recordings, even subtly used this can bring out the wrong things too easily.

Big knobs, simple layout. It does EXACTLY what it's supposed to do. Can't ask for more.

Effective and useful.

Tried a couple of transient shaping tools. This one is well balanced and effective. It's not a character plug-in, but it is very useful.

Designs Transients like a boss.

Does its thing! Sounds good. Very useful tool. I've never used the analog equivalent, so I don't know how it compares in that regard. On its own however, very useful!

Powerful on the right things

I've used the hardware of the SPL® Transient Designer, and the first thing I thought was, "How does it do that?" Quickly I discovered how useful it can be on drum hits. The "attack" knob can save a badly performed or recorded drum, without resorting to a drum replacer. Since buying the Plug-In version, I have explored the "sustain" knob, which is the real charm of it to me. It brings up all the sound that happens right after the impact, which can be all the recorded resonance, room tone, reverb, etc. but not quite like what happens with a compressor. Check it out on a bass!

Perfect

This does exactly what it says on the tin ,,,, no artefacts unless you go crazy with it.
So many uses for this, considering there are only three controls..... wow.

Effetto presenza

Il plugin funziona egregiamente. È molto efficace sulla voce femminile e sui fiati. Trasparente è cristallino, marmoreo nell effetto presenza della voce.

tame those transients

I recently had to mix a recording of a band where the snare wasn't captured well and came across like a small toy drum , the spl Transient Designer worked great and enabled me to add more sustain to each hit with easy to use controls.
awesome tool .
I also used it on a very blown out bass guitar and was able to regain alot of the individual note definition by reducing the sustain on the transient designer.
easy to use great purchase.

A must have plug.

great user off envelop design as i use it one every tracks i make especially on drums.
So i use envelop on logic audio, transients designer plug witch are great plugs, and now i have this spl transcients.
I can say spl sound on most of the case the better but as a little lack of versatillity in comparison of the other ,so i use one of the others on some case.
Even if this lack of verstillity is here i d say this plug sound the better in most of cases due to a more natural sounding when u increase the sustain of the sound.
For the other aplication i would say it s pretty the same pehaps the same more natural sounding can be eard with other plug , but they can sometime be better due to the time can be fixed.

A MIRACLE WORKER

I love this plugin. I just have a small personal project studio, so this hasn't "saved" a session for me, but boy has it fixed some boring drum sounds. It's not the sexiest plugin, but man it is magic!

Awesome sustain

TD is huge when it comes to elongating a response without having to overkill delays or verb. Applied discretely, helps to tame the overall attack of acoustic instruments without disturbing intimacy or sparkle. A mixing must.
