1176LN Classic Limiting Amplifier Plug-In

Ultra-Fast Attack Time and Classic FET Style Compression of the Original, Now in a Plug-In

The reputation of the hardware 1176LN Limiting Amplifier is well known throughout the audio industry. Originally designed and built by Universal Audio founding father Bill Putnam Sr. in the 1960’s, the 1176LN was the first to use a Field Effect Transistor (FET) as a voltage-controlled variable resistor. That innovation was the key to the product’s unique character. An in-depth analysis of the 1176LN’s “personality” allowed UA to meticulously reproduce the ultra-fast attack and unique sonic characteristics of the original hardware as a UAD Powered Plug-In. The resulting 1176LN Powered Plug-In is, hands down, the most accurate emulation of this analog classic available today.

Perfect, absolutely perfect! Nothing beats setting this gem to British mode (for those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, just hold down Shift and click on one of the ratio settings to lock in all four buttons for some blatantly colorful compression!) on a drum bus and cranking the input … Read more

I usually set my release time on this fast with the knob all the way clockwise. It's a goto for adding aggression to a track like an effect, but can equally be used as an audio bouncer. Sounds fantastic. … Read more

I love it on a variety of signals: vocals, bass, guitars, percussion, drums… It's really my go-to colouring compressor. Recently working with Softube's FET compressor which has a parallel compression (mix) knob I wish the UAD compressors had that too, as I love parallel compression and sett … Read more
