Can I use the UAD and Pro Tools?
Yes! The UAD is compatible with Digidesign Pro Tools LE and TDM Mix/HD systems by using the FREE UAD version of the FXpansion VST to RTAS Adapter. Read all about RTAS support (and how to obtain the adapter) on the UAD VST to RTAS Adapter support page.

Note that the full version of the adapter from FXpansion is officially unsupported by UA. Please visit www.fxpansion.com for more information about the full adapter version.

Does UAD-1 support sleep mode with our current software?
Yes and no. Although many customer note no issues, some customers have reported that their computer will crash when waking from sleep after installing v5.0 or higher. So our general advice for users who have a UAD-1 card in their system is to set sleep mode to **Never** until we are able to fix the issue. If you are experiencing this issue and would like assistance please email customer service at info@uaudio.com

Can I run my current plug-ins on the UAD card?
No, only Powered Plug-Ins can run on the UAD card. You can run your favorite plug-ins on the host system concurrently with Powered Plug-Ins running on the UAD card. Powered Plug-Ins will appear in your host application just like standard native plug-ins.

Is Mac OS 9 supported?
UAD Powered Plug-ins runs under Mac OS 9 in version 3.9.0, which is available on our software archives page.

Hardware

Will UAD-1 products continue to be available?
As of June 2009, the UAD-1 product line has been discontinued. Thanks to all our customers for your support. We still plan to continue support of the UAD-1 products with software updates, and will continue to develop and release UAD-1 versions of plug-ins whenever possible. Unfortunately some plug-ins cannot be ported due to resource requirements and technical limitations. We hope you continue to enjoy using your UAD-1’s and hope you eventually upgrade to the UAD-2 platform.

Do we recommend using the UAD1-Xpander with Apple's Mac Book Pro's part #(MB470LL/A) and (MB471LL/A)?
Not currently, we have not tested this configuration yet and advise to wait on purchasing until we have fully qualified it.

Does the UAD-Xpander work with Windows Vista?
Yes. The UAD-Xpander is supported on notebook computers under Mac OS X and Window Vista only. Windows XP notebooks cannot run the UAD-Xpander. However, the UAD-Xpander will run under Windows XP on desktop systems via the UAD-Xtenda PCIe-to-ExpressCard adapter.

Is Apple's 8-core Mac Pro compatible with the UAD-1e?
Some users are experiencing problems with Apple Mac Pro computers and Logic 8, when used with UAD Powered Plug-Ins. The problems manifest as CPU spiking, and occasional halting of playback. They seem to occur more often on the 8-core model. We have determined that this problem stems from the unique way in which Logic 8 treats plug-ins on a track with no audio currently passing through it. We are currently examining workarounds but have no definitive solution at this time. Please note that other hosts besides Logic 8 work fine with UAD-1e on the Mac Pro models, including the 8-core.

Therefore we do NOT currently recommend purchasing either a UAD-1e or UAD-1 to use with this specific CPU/DAW configuration.

Are multiple cards supported?
Yes, multicard use under Windows and Macintosh is supported. Up to 4 UAD-1/1e cards plus 4 UAD-2 cards can be used, for a total of 8 UAD cards, within one system.

New Users

Why can't I see the UAD plug-ins I obtained from the UA store in my host application, even though I loaded the new Authorization file?
Prior versions of the UAD software bundle may not include our recent plug-ins. Install the latest software release to ensure you have all available plug-ins.

General

How many plug-ins can I run simultaneously?
There are countless combinations. See the DSP usage chart on the UAD charts page.
<TOP>

Can the UAD run alongside other DSP cards (e.g. TC PowerCore, Creamware Pulsar, etc.)?
Yes. Many users have reported success using the TC PowerCore, Korg OASYS, Creamware DSP, and Yamaha DSP Factory cards concurrently with UAD Powered Plug-Ins. The UAD card is fully compliant with the PCI 2.1 specification.

What plug-ins can I run on a UAD-1 Mackie card?
All UAD-1 Mackie cards include the Mix Essentials (1176SE, Pultec EQP-1A, RealVerb Pro, CS-1 plug-in suite, and Nigel plug-in suite). Additionally, they include the LA-2A, and 1176LN plug-ins on the card itself. Upon new registration of a UAD-1 Mackie card, these licenses are issued to the user account.

Upon transfer of ownership of a UAD-1 Mackie card, all these plug-ins (including LA-2A and 1176LN plug-ins) run on the Mackie card without the need to purchase the license. However, if you have a UAD-1 Mackie card transferred to your account from a previous owner who selected to “transfer with no plug-in licenses”, you don't actually own the LA-2A and 1176LN plug-in licenses.

The result is if you have the UAD-1 Mackie card without licenses installed in a computer with other UAD-1 cards (or UAD-1e cards) then the LA-2A and 1176LN plug-ins will only run on the Mackie card (you will get an error, “Plug-in only authorized to run on card#X”).

Purchasing the full plug-in licenses would allow you to use them on all the cards in the same account group.
