UAD Powered Plug-Ins
Release Notes
Mac OS 9 MAS

Version 3.9.0
Updated June 23, 2005

This document contains the most recent technical information for the Mac OS 9 MAS platform. Please review all the information before installing or using the product.

Important Information

  • The UAD drivers and plugins are a matched set. Some plugins depend on others to provide shared functionality. Keep the complete installed set of UAD plugins in the same location. Do not rename the UAD plugin files.

If you also use UAD Powered Plug-Ins for OS 9 VST, the software installed in this MAS release is compatible with the same version of UAD Powered Plug-Ins for VST. The driver files are identical in the same MAS and VST versions. To avoid incompatibility issues when using MAS and VST, make sure all installed UAD Powered Plug-Ins components are the same version

  • UAD Plate 140 does not support sample rates above 96kHz.

  • The Pultec and Pultec-Pro plugins introduce an additional 13 samples of delay due to upsampling. You may enter a value of 13 in the "Samples" parameter in DelayComp or TrackAdv to compensate. (See "Delay Compensation" in Chapter 3 of the UADManual.pdf for more information.)

  • The Precision Mastering Series plugins (Limiter and Equalizer) also introduce additional latency. This is not an issue when used in their typical configuration (on an output) but when used on inserts, you may use the "Samples" parameter in DelayComp or TrackAdv to compensate. (See "Delay Compensation" in Chapter 3 of the UADManual.pdf for more information and specific sample values.)

  • We strongly recommend allocating as much memory as possible to the host application (while still leaving enough RAM for the operating system). If you get a "plugin failed to load" message when loading a UAD plugin or the UAD plugin window appears to be missing some controls, it is probably because not enough host memory has been allocated.

  • DSP load estimates are slightly overestimated and may vary depending on the plugin. This means the Load Limiting feature may reject new plugins at lower CPU values than specified. Note: CPU Load Limiting is disabled by default.

  • UAD Plate 140 can be constrained to always or never use Wet Solo mode by setting its global defaults. Click here for more information.

Information Specific to Dual Processor Systems

  • When the output signal of a UAD plugin is routed to the input of another plugin(s), the plugin(s) receiving the UAD plugin output signal will not benefit from multiple processors. This is due to a limitation of the MAS software. Exception: This does not apply to the DelayComp plugin.

  • Certain ASIO drivers may not work when MP mode is enabled in the host application. We recommend contacting the ASIO hardware manufacturer to confirm their ASIO driver supports dual processor systems.

  • The UAD plugins themselves do not realize any host CPU gain when MP support is enabled. They may use a slightly larger amount of host CPU in MP mode when compared to non-MP mode. In general, the host CPU requirement increases as ASIO buffer size decreases and/or the sample rate increases.

Current Known Issues for MAS systems

  • Cambridge EQ: The A/B selector button does not switch to the "B" curve.

  • Digital Performer and AudioDesk do not implement automatic delay compensation. To keep UAD tracks synchronized with unprocessed tracks, use the UAD Delay Compensator. "Offline" processing and bouncing to disk using UAD plugins will shift the audio also.

See Chapter 3 of the User Manual for detailed information on how to use the DelayComp plugin. Example session files demonstrating the proper use of the UAD DelayComp plugin are on the product CD-ROM or they can be downloaded
    here.

For additional information, see "Support Report" in the February 2004 edition of the Universal Audio Webzine at
    http://www.uaudio.com/webzine/february/index5.html.

  • Processing an audio track "offline" with UAD plugins (i.e. selecting a track, then selecting Audio menu->Audio Plug-Ins) requires that all other UAD plugins be disabled. The easiest method of accomplishing this is with the UAD Meter "Off" button. You must wait until the background processing is finished before re-enabling the disabled plugins or loading any new UAD plugins.

  • Smooth automation ramps cannot be drawn manually

  • (RealVerb Pro) Morphing is not fully supported in the current version of Digital Performer.
Morphing works correctly until you modify and save a preset, at which point selecting presets from the morphing presets menu may not always load the desired effect. This is due to a limitation of the MOTU software.

  • (Mackie Control) Control of the UAD plugins with Mackie Control does not work correctly.

  • (DreamVerb) Loading a preset in DreamVerb using the Load button within the DreamVerb graphical user interface does not work properly if automation is enabled.

  • (UAD Fairchild) While recording or playing back automation when Fairchild is in Controls Link mode, move the Fairchild right channel control only.
