UAD Powered Plug-Ins
Windows Release Notes

Version 4.10.0
Updated December 5, 2007

This document contains the most recent technical information for the Windows platform. Please review all the information before contacting technical support.

UAD Powered Plug-Ins v4.10.0 Information

  • A new switch has been added in UAD v4.7.1 (and higher) for Sonar users. To prevent high host CPU usage when UAD plug-ins are used in Sonar, check the "Sonar compatibility mode" option in the UAD-1 Meter Configuration panel.

  • The file extension for optional plug-in license authorization key files was changed from .reg to .uad as of UAD v4.7.0. The authorization file load procedure for v4.7.0 (and higher) users has not changed (simply double-click to load them).

Those that choose not to update to v4.7.0 (or higher) need to follow special instructions to load new authorization files. These special instructions are displayed on your "Authorize Software" page at
my.uaudio.com. Navigate to the page by visiting your "My Systems" page, then click the "Download Software Authorization(s)" button.

Important Information

  • It is critical to follow the installation procedure in the QuickStart Guide exactly. Please refer to the installation procedure before installing the software

  • The Host Application Notes contain optimization information for specific audio hosts. Be sure to review the notes for the host application(s) you are using.

  • (TurboDMA) Most systems will experience increased or identical performance with TurboDMA mode which was new in version 4.0. Some systems may encounter new performance issues with version 4.x such as higher host CPU load, dropouts, or glitches in disk rendering. In this scenario, the TurboDMA feature can be disabled with a special registry key provided by UA technical support which will revert performance back to version 3.9.0 levels under version 4.x.

  • The UAD drivers and plugins are a matched set. Some plugins depend on others to provide shared functionality. Keep the complete installed set of UAD plugins in the same location. Do not rename the UAD plugin files. If you are using multiple host applications, make sure they all have the same version of the UAD plugins installed.
  • Some UAD Powered Plug-Ins do not support sample rates above 96kHz. For complete details, please see the Sample Rate diagram on our charts page.

  • Logic Audio requires separate monophonic versions of VST plugins for mono audio tracks. For this reason, the UAD Powered Plug-Ins Installer includes the option of installing mono versions of the UAD plugins. It is recommended that you install the mono plugins only for use with Logic Audio, because most other host applications can use the standard UAD plugins for mono audio files.

  • DSP load estimates are slightly overestimated and may vary depending on the plugin. This means the Load Limiting feature may reject new plugins at lower CPU values than specified.

  • Matrox G4xx graphics cards users will experience distortion in Audio Export/Processing results if UAD plugin windows are open during processing.

Workaround: Close all UAD plugin interface windows before performing Audio Export/Processing.

  • Systems with the Matrox P750 graphics card may experience a crash when using text entry with UAD plugins.

Workarounds: There are two possible solutions:
    A. Disable (untick) the "Save and restore windows positions" option in the "Desktop management" panel of the Matrox PowerDesk HF software. OR,
    B. Remove the Matrox driver software and allow Windows to install default drivers for the Matrox graphics card.

  • Plate 140 can be constrained to always or never use Wet Solo mode by setting its global defaults. Click here for more information.

Version 4.x Compatibility Information

  • Project settings and preset files for the CS-1 and Nigel family plug-ins that are saved with version 4.x will not load correctly with version 3.x. This applies even if the project was originally created with version 3.x.

  • (RTAS, Sony VST, Nuendo 1.x) Project settings and preset files for the CS-1 family plugins that are saved with version 3.x cannot be loaded with version 4.x. Note: Bank files saved with version 3.x are not affected and can be loaded into version 4.x.

Workarounds: Presets can be saved with version 3.x and then loaded and re-saved with version 4.x under any other supported host. Alternately, complete existing projects with version 3.x and start new projects with version 4.x (or take screenshots in v3.x and enter the parameter values manually in v4.x).

Note: Some hosts may resolve this issue in newer versions. For example, Nuendo 1.x projects with CS-1 plugins will load properly in Nuendo 2.x/3.x.

  • (CS-1/DM-1/DM-1L) In projects that were saved with UAD version 3.9.0 (and lower) then loaded with version 4.x, automation of the "LFO Type" parameter will not be read correctly.
