UAD Host Application Notes - Mac

This page lists known compatibility notes that are not strictly issues with the UAD software. Some host applications have plug-in implementations that induce idiosyncratic behavior specific only to that particular host. Most of these situations are not within our control and/or require updates to the host application. We work closely with most host developers to resolve these issues whenever possible. Older notes for hosts and/or platforms that are no longer supported in the current UAD Powered Plug-Ins version are available at the bottom of this page.

UAD software for older operating systems that are not currently supported is still available in the UAD Software Archives.

Steinberg Nuendo & Cubase

  • When offline processing a track with UAD plug-ins, you must first disable any currently active UAD plug-ins using the On/Off button in the UAD Meter & Control Panel. Note: If you disable the UAD plug-ins in order to do offline processing, and then do a preview of the offline process, the plug-ins are automatically re-enabled by Nuendo. Therefore, turn off the UAD plug-ins AFTER previewing, but BEFORE offline processing.

Ableton Live

  • (Version 5 and higher) For optimum results, set the Live plug-in buffer size to "As Audio Buffer."

Avid Pro Tools

  • Please visit the RTAS information page for the latest technical information (including configuration info and known issues) for RTAS and Pro Tools.

Apple Logic Pro

  • After installing an updated version of UAD Powered Plug-Ins, Logic Pro will not recognize the updated plug-ins if the application is running in 64-bit mode. Solution: Logic Pro must be launched in 32-bit mode so it can rescan the plug-ins. After rescanning in 32-bit mode, Logic Pro will recognize the UAD plug-ins in both 32-bit and 64-bit modes.
To switch the Logic Pro mode:
    1. Quit Logic Pro, if it is running.
    2. Navigate to and select the Logic Pro application in the Applications folder.
    3. From the File menu, choose Get Info
    4. Select the "Open in 32-bit mode" checkbox to run Logic Pro in 32-bit mode. Deselect the checkbox to run Logic Pro in 64-bit mode.
  • UAD latency is determined by Logic’s “live mode” setting and its associated setting in the UAD Meter & Control Panel’s Configuration tab. See the heading titled “Force Logic to use live mode for tracks with UAD plug-ins” in Chapter 6 of the UAD Manual for more information.
  • (Logic Pro 7.1) Freezing a track containing UAD plug-ins does not release UAD resources if the UAD plug-in editor window is open. Workaround: Close the UAD plug-in editor windows before freezing the track (requires UAD v3.9.0 or higher).
  • Some initial parameters values may not be recorded properly during automation. Workaround: Manually draw the initial automation for these parameters.
  • UAD plug-in settings presets may not reload correctly if the preset is saved to a location other than Logic's default save location. Workaround: Use the UAD Toolbar to save UAD plug-in presets, or save only to Logic's default save location in the Logic preset save dialog.

MOTU Digital Performer

  • When loading sessions that were saved in DP on OS 9 with MAS versions of the UAD plug-ins, the corresponding AU versions of the UAD plug-ins will load, but initial plug-in settings and automation are not restored.
  • Processing an audio track "offline" with UAD plug-ins (i.e. selecting a track, then selecting Audio menu->Audio Plug-Ins) requires that all other UAD plug-ins be disabled. The easiest method of accomplishing this is with the UAD Meter "Off" button. You must wait until the background processing is finished before re-enabling the disabled plug-ins or loading any new UAD plug-ins
  • (DP version 4.5 and prior only) Digital Performer does not release UAD DSP resources for UAD plug-ins that are in an inactive sequence or mix.
  • (DP version 4.52 and prior only) Digital Performer does not properly support the loading of UAD presets in AU format. We recommend using the UAD VST presets instead via the Load/Save VST Preset buttons within the UAD plug-in interface.

BIAS Peak

  • Simultaneous use of AU and VST versions of UAD plug-ins within Peak is not supported. We recommend using VST.
  • For optimum results, use Peak version 4.13 or higher.
  • Plug-ins are instantiated in stereo mode on monophonic files. Only the left channel is processed and returned, which may cause unexpected results. Workaround: Convert the mono file to stereo, or use the mono(m) version of the UAD VST plug-in.

Apple Final Cut Pro & Soundtrack

  • Some UAD plug-ins instantiate with all parameter values set to zero.
  • Final Cut Pro does not support custom graphical user interfaces. Controls mode is used instead.
