UAD Host Application Notes - Windows

This page lists known compatibility notes that are not strictly issues with the UAD software. Some host applications have plug-in implementations that induce idiosyncratic behavior specific only to that particular host. Most of these situations are not within our control and/or require updates to the host application. We work closely with most host developers to resolve these issues whenever possible. Older notes for hosts and/or platforms that are no longer supported in the current UAD Powered Plug-Ins version are available at the bottom of this page.

UAD software for older operating systems that are not currently supported is still available in the UAD Software Archives.

Ableton Live

  • (Version 5 and higher) For optimum results, set the Live plugin buffer size to "As Audio Buffer."

Cakewalk Sonar

  • To prevent high host CPU usage when UAD plug-ins are used in Sonar, check the "Sonar compatibility mode" option in the UAD Meter & Control Panel's Configuration tab.
  • If the mono VST plug-ins were optionally installed and used in projects with UAD v3.x, errors may occur when loading the project in UAD v4.x because the location of the mono plug-ins has changed. Workaround: Install the version 4.x mono plug-ins, then manually move the contents of the mono directory to its parent, which is the version 3.x location. For example, move the contents of:
    C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplug-ins\Powered plug-ins\Mono\
Into the v3.x location in the main directory:
    C:\Program Files\Steinberg\Vstplug-ins\Powered plug-ins\
  • Sonar version 4.0.3 or greater is required for Tempo Sync functionality. To enable Tempo Sync in Sonar, follow these steps:
    1. Run CakeWalk VST adapter
    2. Click "Reset All..."
    3. Click "Folder Defaults"
    4. Check the following options:
    - Enable as DX plugin
    - Configure as Tempo-based effect
    5. Click "Next" to complete configuration.
  • The synchronization mode "Full chase lock" is not supported. The default "Trigger & FreeWheel" mode must be used instead. This setting is found in the "Advanced:Synchronization" section of the "Audio Options" panel.
  • When using the MOTU PCI-324 card for audio output, the ASIO driver must be used instead of the WDM driver.
  • UAD plug-ins currently do not support offline processing of grooveclips.
  • (UAD v4.10.0 and lower) Using UAD Extra Buffers may cause audio dropouts. An Extra Buffers setting of 0 is recommended.
  • Delay compensation in Sonar may cause MIDI tracks to go out of sync when the Precision Multiband is used. Contact Cakewalk for further details or updates. Workaround: Bounce Instruments using MIDI to audio track(s) before using Precision Multiband.
  • A UAD Not Responding error (Err-21) may intermittently occur on some systems when using UAD plug-ins in Sonar. Workaround: The close collaboration between Universal Audio and Cakewalk has resulted in a fix in the Cakewalk VST Adapter that is now released and available free to all registered Sonar users. Please visit http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/kb/kb2006928.asp to obtain the update (it's included in Sonar 6 and higher).
  • A noise burst or audio dropout can occur when the Autotune 4 DX plugin is used in a project with UAD plug-ins. This issue does not occur with Autotune 4 VST. Solution: Use the VST version of Autotune 4 instead of DX. It is available as a free update from Antares at http://www.antarestech.com/download/update.shtml.

Steinberg Nuendo & Cubase SX

  • (Cubase/Nuendo v2 and v3) Exporting mp3 files may not work properly with certain UAD plug-in combinations. Workaround: Export as WAV or other file type, then convert the exported file to mp3. This is not an issue in Nuendo/Cubase v4.
  • (UAD-2) LiveTrack processing is not enabled properly in Nuendo/Cubase v2 and v3. After enabling and disabling LiveTrack for a UAD-2 plug-in, you must toggle the Nuendo/Cubase plug-in disable ("Power") button for processing to work again. This is not an issue in Nuendo/Cubase v4.
  • When offline processing a track with UAD plug-ins, you must first disable any currently active UAD plug-ins using the On/Off button in the UAD Meter & Control Panel.
  • (All) In order for UAD keyboard shortcuts to behave as expected in Nuendo and Cubase, the host user preference "Plug Ins receive key commands" should be selected.
  • (WaveLab) EMT 140 (formerly Plate 140) 'Wet Solo' mode is ignored when the 'Process In Place' or 'Create New File' options are used to render audio. Under these conditions, EMT 140 renders in '100% Wet' mode regardless of the Wet Solo state. Workaround: EMT 140 can be constrained to always or never render using Wet Solo mode by setting the EMT 140 Global Defaults. Click here for more information.
  • (Wavelab 4/5) Preset files for the CS-1 and Nigel family plug-ins that are saved with version 3.x cannot be loaded with version 4.0 and higher. Bank files and Audio Montages saved with version 3.x are not affected and can be loaded into version 4.0. Note: This issue is resolved in Wavelab 6.

Image Line Fruity Loops / FL Studio

  • To increase the stability of UAD plug-ins, disable the "Reset plug-ins on transport" option. This setting is found in the "Audio Settings" panel under the "Options" menu.

Sony

  • (Vegas/ACID) Increased host CPU load may be experienced with UAD version 4 (and higher) due to the new TurboDMA feature. TurboDMA can be disabled with a special registry key which will revert performance back to version 3.9.0 levels under version 4 and higher. Contact UA technical support for more information.
  • (Sony VST) Project settings and preset files for the CS-1 family plug-ins that are saved with version 3.x cannot be loaded with UAD version 4 and higher. Note: Bank files saved with version 3.x are not affected and can be loaded into version 4 and higher. Workaround: Presets can be saved with version 3.x and then loaded and re-saved with version 4.x under any other supported host. Alternately, complete existing projects with version 3.x and start new projects with version 4.x (or take screenshots in v3.x and enter the parameter values manually in v4.x).
