UAD: The Industry’s Most Respected Collection of Audio Plug-Ins

From serious home recordists to multi-platinum mix engineers, UAD Powered Plug-Ins have been winning over audio professionals for more than 10 years. The reason is simple. No other plug-ins so faithfully capture the sound and behavior of classic analog equipment — from rare compressors and equalizers, to vintage reverb processors and tape machines.

The UAD library features over 90 plug-ins, co-developed with the biggest brands in audio. These plug-ins can be purchased with UAD-2 hardware from retailers as part of bundled packages, or you can buy UAD plug-ins à la carte from UA’s Online Store.

UAD-2 DSP Accelerator cards are available in QUAD and OCTO configurations, with four or eight individual SHARC processors respectively. The four-processor UAD-2 QUAD is a workhorse of modern mixing, giving project studios the power to run medium-sized sessions. The eight-chip UAD-2 OCTO is perfect for UAD power users, allowing professionals to craft mixes filled with the rich analog sound of UAD plug-ins. Up to six UAD-2 devices can be combined in a single system.

UAD Plug-In Craftsmanship: The Science Behind the Scenes

UAD Plug-In Craftsmanship: The Science Behind the Scenes

In developing UAD plug-ins, UA’s engineering group undertakes a thorough physical modeling of classic audio hardware — “rebuilding” vintage analog gear in the digital world, component by component. That’s how UAD plug-ins replicate the exact, sometimes quirky, behavior of analog hardware — bringing its rich, three-dimensional sound and harmonics "in the box."

The Good:
I finally upgraded my old UAD1 card for the UAD2 Duo. I'm loving the increased DSP power; I can use UAD plugins on far more tracks than before.

The Bad:
I really miss the Nigel guitar suite. That thing was an unsung hero, especially (surprisingly enough) on my bass tracks.

The Ugly:
The harsh fact is that these cards are expensive. For a proffessional studio, I'd say it's a no-brainer, but for a project studio like mine, well, let's just say my wife will not allow me to buy anything else music-related for a while.

I have been a UAD 1 user since 2002 and was in love from day one using the LA2A, 1176LN, Dreamverb, and EX-1 although I miss the Nigel Guitar Effects being that I am an endorsee of Steinberg products the new Cubase 6.50 has the Guitar Amp that has taken the place. The UAD 2 Solo gives just that added power that I need. Cannot wait to add the Studer Tape, EMT, and some of the Roland Effects that my colleagues have been raving about.. I cannot mix nor master without UAD in my signal chain - it's a must have in today's DAW world if you plan to make industry standard sonically sound records.

I'm actually mixed about 5/6 songs using only UAD plugin! ....I've done all the mixes just with my DAW: my clients are everybody really happy!
It's fantistic how I can create my sound with an accurrancy that I never had before!
Perfect hi end and really concrete bottom!
I think with UAD it' s begun a new era!

Cool guys! I'm always waiting for any news from UAD world!

All the best,

It is what it is. The beginning and end of "in the box" mixing tools. I had the duo and needed the headroom so I bought the quad. My only complaint (and it is probably not even valid) is that i don't feel as if it have doubled my headroom, but, then again, i also bought the 224 and the FATSO with the voucher i got, and those are both CPU suckers of the first degree. With the UA stuff I feel like I am done as far as "in the box" is concerned.

I was introduced to UAD-2 Plug-Ins a couple of years ago by a friend who works in a professional audio shop in Sydney, Australia. I told him I was looking for tools to help me with my mixes and at that stage, I was prepared to invest in hardware. Thanks to his introduction to Universal Audio, I found a new and more practical alternative that fits perfectly into my studio environment. Now I have two UAD-2 DUO PCI Cards and about two-dozen UAD Plug-Ins. All that's left is the enjoyment and the journey of creativity and learning. The technical side has been covered. I have the same tools as professional recording studios. Thank you, Universal Audio for helping me take a big step forward.

Really nice entry level card to get into the world of UAD plugins. The included set of plugins is already a very nice and versatile set of plugins.

Very easy installation.
Installation and use of the card has never given me any problems.

I already own a Solo and a Duo card, so this just increases my available DSP for more plugins, very nice!

Comes with a voucher. So one could get a plugin at reduced price or if one's lucky a plugin for free during one of UA's many sales.

The only minor downside I can think of is in the software; it's not possible to hide any plugins that one hasn't bought yet.

Think twice before buying a UAD card. I have been a supporter for many many years and purchased the original UAD 1 extreme card which came with 32 plug-ins and cost a reasonable sum of money. UAD decided not to support this any further and offered $200 trade in (for a card that cost $1200 +) and had to purchase a new UAD Solo card for an additional $330. To add insult to injury, in the process I also lost 12 plug-ins that were on the UAD 1 and now are not supported. It also cost me time and money (round trip to my music store). I pointed this out to UAD and asked for extra plug- in compensation- they simply avoided the subject matter in their return correspondence 3 times. So I can't fault the plug-ins but be aware, this could happen to you

This has made such a difference in my project studio. The plug ins are astounding and adds amazing tone / processing power that I would never have thought i would be able to get on my mixes

The new UAD-2 SOLO DSP accelerator is a lot better that the UAD-1. It's working perfectly, and is way faster than it's predcessor! Absolutely fantastic!

I love UAD plugins from years..
the quad card is great..
so i used the "trade in" giving you back my 2 old uad 1..

i choose the pci express card because i use win 7 x64..
and at now there are no windows drivers for Satellite..

i wish in the future to have 1 apollo and 3 Satellite all Quad ..

i would like to have all the plugins licences.. but to much money for now..

Studer® A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder
Roland® RE-201 Space Echo Tape Delay
Lexicon® 224 Digital Reverb
Cooper® Time Cube Mk II Delay
FATSO™ Jr./Sr. Tape Sim. & Compressor

Maybe...Can I have one years demo Time?

My old system, which was a UAD-2 Duo and a UAD-1 occasionally ran out of gas on plug-in intensive mixes. With the upgrade to the UAD-2 Solo, I'm betting that this will be a thing of the past. The very generous $200 credit added to the incentive to move up.
More instantiations of great stuff---nuttin' wrong with that.
Thank you UA!

Exactly the plugins you don't expect. Everything in this bundle sounds different from every other software i've ever tried. Simply fantastic.

This my second UAD unit. Upgraded from the UAD1 Mackie and couldn't be happier. The emulations are and have always been incredible. The amount of instances I use would have my cpu fried in minutes with vsts but the UAD processor makes filling up my channels with top notch plug ins a stress free procedure. There really is not much I say that countless other satified costumers haven't said already. This product needs to be in the arsenal of anyone who is serious about maximizing their sonic potential.

Although the plugins can be pricey at times you really get what you pay for. Universal Audio is easily one if the best companies out there, offering reliabilty and care for both their products and costumers.

Thanks for the smooth ride UA!

I purchased the UAD-2 after having a UAD-1 card. I use UAD plugs exclusively in MUTU DP. I wish I owned all the UAD processors.
