UAD Plug-In Craftsmanship: The Science Behind the Scenes

In developing UAD plug-ins, UA’s engineering group undertakes a thorough physical modeling of classic audio hardware — “rebuilding” vintage analog gear in the digital world, component by component. That’s how UAD plug-ins replicate the exact, sometimes quirky, behavior of analog hardware — bringing its rich, three-dimensional sound and harmonics "in the box."

Fantastic. 'Analog Classics' bundle has improved the quality of my mixes - particularly impressed with the Pultec EQ. The DSP card can handle many instances of VSTs. I especially like the fact that this bundle comes with trials of all the other UAD-2 VSTs, so that you can scope out which you'd most benefit investing in.

This is my 3rd UAD card. Great buy I did back in 2006 when I bought a UAD1 Ultra-Pack. The UAD1 has gone now and in its place there are two UAD2's (Duo + Quad) and a larger plug-in collection. Excelent and fantastic plug-ins, absolutely the best - my mixing dutties could not be without them. Thank's UAD guys for keeping on giving us such great products.

......the first Quad 2 card I had received unfortunately did`nt work well. But- within a week - with the very personal help of the Universal Support team - I had the card changed. And....what can I say - I´am very happy with it now !
Especially the 1176 Classic Limiter Collection, the EMT 140 Classic Plate Reverb (sounds just great !) ,The Roland RE-201 & the CE -1 ( I own the original hardware as well) and the dimension D sound just like the originals and I`am using it every day in my productions !
So-what can I say-great fun working with these fine tools !

I upgraded from a single UAD-1 to a UAD-2 Quad, so there was clearly a huge boost to DSP power. I can load as many plugins as I care to for most projects, but even this behemoth isn't enough to slap tape on every track along with tracking or mixing chains. Unless you only have a few tracks, you have to treat "bouncing to tape" as a separate process. I'm alright with that if it keeps plugin quality up.

I recently upgraded from 1 UAD-2 Solo card and 3 UAD-1 cards to a UAD-2 quad. The upgrade has completely changed my workflow, and allowed me to rely almost entirely on UAD plugins. I was able to insert 3-4 UAD plugins per channel on a recent project with a medium track count with no issues. A great purchase!

I am a big Fan of Universal Audio, because this company understands how music should sound and the way it supposed to be recored. I love how they have taken the old preserved it in the computer world. No one should ever have any excuse on how their mixes should sound. UAD is the way to go. Your investment in any UAD-2 Card will be great for any DAW you use. Currently I own the UAD-2 DUO DSP Accelerator and it added more power to my solo card, and my mixes sound amazing. I feel like I'm working in a professional studio with all the dear I need in the box.

After taking advantage of the trade in offer, and spending about a month putting it through it's paces, I'm pleased with my upgrade to the UAD-2.
Not only did it make available many more plugins, but it's compatibility with my DAW of choice ( Reaper ) made everything so much smoother.

We are having problems with this device.

1.) Using PT HD2 8.1.1 windows - we have a latency issue. Great sounding plugs but massive latency. If we knew about this in advance, we may have not bought this board (yet).

2.) We have a problem with DEMOS EXPIRING. This has cause errors in the middle of our Protools sessions. One of these errors actually shut down the PT session while we were trying to bounce final mix!

We can easily see that this is a great product but it does not work well for windows machines. We are in the process of obtaining a Mac computer and will try this and our 2 other SOLOs in that machine.

I'm amazed! I've been a big UAD fan since I bought the first Mackie PCI card version many years ago. The quality of the initial plug ins gave my work a very clean and professional sound. I kept adding plug ins, and realized that I had more tools for mixing than any recording studio I was ever in, even into the early 90's. Over the years I had accumulated (4) UAD-1 cards just for the power and flexibility it gave my system. Then the UAD-2 platform came out, and I knew I needed to get a Quad! I wanted to keep pace with the new plug ins that became available. The increase in power allowed me to use an incredible number of my favorite plugins. To me, the most amazing thing about UAD, is the care and respect shown to long-time customers by creating the rebate plan,

Good to swap cards I wasn't using to help fund a UAD-2 Duo -- sure appreciate being able to have the Manley Massive Passive not chew up ALL the processing power!

I love this card. I replaced an older UAD-1 during the $200 trade-in promotion, and bought and installed without any problems the new UAD-2 Quad, which worked perfectly with the other UAD-2 Quad I have in the PC. The processing power of the plugins on the cards allow my PC to run countless versions of DSPs on multiple tracks, which leaves my PC to record and play virtual and soft synth instruments. Having the $500 voucher allowed me to purchase some new plugins I really wanted too, which makes the flexi a good deal.

I loved my UAD-1e. The trade in special was a no brainer for me. I always planned to move to a UAD-2 but the trade in special just made it sooner. The emulations are top notch as always.

My one and only problem with this card is that Pro Tools (although it officially supports the card) will not run with any reliability with even one instance of a UA plugin running. I don't blame Universal Audio for that. I blame the DAW. I also use Samplitude and Sonar. Both work flawlessly with the UAD-2 Solo.

It's an excellent product.

Finally

I'v been dreaming about the UAD 2 quad core card for years. finally got it and it was every thing I hoped it would be and more. I actually purchased a Duo & Quad at the same time.

I just can't believe the stability of it in comparison to the UAD 1 card. I use to get crashes any time I attempted automation , but this thing can handle anything I through at it. It just doesn't quit.

I feel like I'm dreaming and this can't be real.Â
