Ultra-Fast Attack Time and Classic FET Style Compression of the Original, Now in a DSP-Optimized Plug-In
The 1176SE is derived from the 1176LN. Its algorithm has been revised in order to provide sonic characteristics similar to the 1176LN but with significantly less DSP usage. It is provided to allow "1176LN-like sound" when DSP resources are limited.
Way more punch and smooth than Waves L1. A class apart! Well done!Read More

One of the best compressor
Using this compressor mostly almost for all - vocals, guitars, drums, bass!!! this is ma favourite!
In a comparing with other firms emulators - this is the one wich works closer to iron version! Thanks UAD - Great job!
This is a classic limiter for sure!
The SE Limiter, is very classic indeed. I have used the hardware analog version, many many times in studios. It's got such a rich, warm, smooth, operating sound. No matter what I put it on it was outstanding. I find after using this plug-in for quite a while now, it operates and sounds exactly the same as the hardware. You truly need to have this in your bag of tools.
Sweet free plugin
Aside from the updated 1176 plugs, you wont find a better 1176 than this UA legacy plug. Very useable and versatile compressor. I gave it 4/5 because the newer versions are just too good.
1176 SE CLASSIC LIMITING AMPLIFIER PLUGIN
This product is great for smoothing out transients and bringing out 3rd party harmonics when pushed I have also used the hardware of this plugin and can honestly say that there is not a lot of difference (if any) between the digital and analog versions. A brilliant all round plugin in my opinion.
Initial SE release was noble, LN more desireable
The UA efforts paid off in the LN legacy for my needs (on vocals) but the SE suffices when I'm running short on DSP...always a hurdle.
Add a touch of attitude to your mix
It's good on everything. This is the best compressor ever. It makes things just sound better hence some using it with no compression just for the sound. Vocals, bass, guitar, drums can all be done with these. It keeps the highend intact and probably adds a touch of highend also which is super cool because most compressors rob the highend a little too much. The thing about the 1176 is it adds just a touch of attitude which is so cool almost always.
These emulations sound like real hardware compressors. Effortlessly gives power and character to vocals. I'm amazed at how far you can push these and still have them sound great.
Lighter But Just As Good
I have a hard time telling the difference between what this plug is doing differently compared to the LN version. However, as a rule of thumb I will only use it if I am running low on DSP power. In most cases you will not need to use this, but it is really great knowing there is a powerful tool on a diet to help you put the last touches on a mix. You will be thankful this is in your arsenal!
UA never seizes to amaze me. The quality and sound of this plugin is like no other. Cannot begin to explain how great it sounds. A must for any serious studio!
Awesome in a box
I use the hell out of this thing on the drum bus. I choose it as a constant in the mix because the drums are more often than not a constant in my music and I really enjoy the lower load it puts on my mixes. It's just another way to get more power for less fuel which is what the UAD-2 is all about. I can always get way more compression out of the 1176SE and actually find myself dialing it back once I get everything balanced. Fast attack, fast release and it really makes your drums explosive. I will have to say though that during this holiday season I purchased an LA-3A and have yet to even run a signal through it. So will the 1176SE find another purpose? This is going to be a very tough one to beat. We shall soon see.
