Top Three Issues, and How They Were Resolved by UA's Customer Service Team
Issue 1:Can I use any of the UAD cards in my iMac? I think the answer is no because there is no PCI slot or express card, just to confirm... :(
Solution:You are correct. In order to use any of the UAD powered plug-ins, you will need a UAD card installed within that computer. We offer PCI, PCIe and ExpressCard 34 versions, but you will need a computer that has PCI, PCIe or ExpressCard 34 slots within it.

Issue 2:I downloaded your latest UAD software and I can't use the demos. How do I use the UAD DSP card with a G5 iMac? Do you give student discounts?
Solution:a.) All UAD plug-ins (including demo trial versions) require a physical PCI, PCIe or ExpressCard 34 UAD card installed in the computer for the plugs to run. b.) The UAD card is the DSP engine that runs the UAD software plug-ins. Without a UAD card installed in your computer, you cannot run UAD plug-ins. c.) While Universal Audio does offer discounts to educational institutions who purchase products for use in audio instruction, we do not currently offer any direct discounts to individual students at this time.

Apple 8-core Mac Pros
We've seen many reports from users in the field regarding CPU spiking and lowered performance from the 8-core Mac Pros when UAD-1 plug-ins are in use. We've taken delivery of a new 8-core Mac Pro and are working with Apple to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. The issue seems to affect Logic users to a much larger degree than other hosts; however, reports overall are varied in their severity. What we've been able to reproduce in house is not as extreme as some of those reports by users. There clearly are some additional factors involved, and we are investigating.
Overall, it's difficult to say how much you will be affected by this if you have one of these machines. All we can advise at this point is caution and awareness to those customers who are potential buyers of new Mac Pros. If you need a new machine, just be aware that you may experience some degree of reduced performance when using UAD-1 plug-ins. If you can, we suggest waiting until this issue has been ironed out.
Thanks for your patience, and we'll get it sorted out soon enough!
