UAD v5.2 includes Pro Tools Support, Auto Delay Compensation

In addition to full Pro Tools compatibility, and support for the full line of Powered Plug-Ins, UAD Software v5.2 now provides UAD-2 users with automatic plug-in delay compensation for Pro Tools LE via the bundled MellowMuse ATA plug-in! Until now, Pro Tools LE lacked what most other DAW users have taken for granted: built-in delay compensation. Now, MellowMuse ATA lines up all your tracks automatically with a couple of clicks–UAD Powered Plug-Ins and regular plug-ins alike–and it's FREE to UAD-2 users. UAD-1 users may purchase MellowMuse ATA at a discounted price as a courtesy of UA. UAD Software version 5.2 is expected to be available in mid-December.

Ulrich Wild with the UAD-2
Engineer Ulrich Wild is Wild About
His UAD-2

Rock engineer Ulrich Wild is loving his new UAD-2 cards. “The new UAD-2 cards are extremely powerful. The UAD-1 cards were good, but they packed so much more power into the UAD-2 cards that it feels like I upgraded from a few choice Neve modules to a whole entire studio packed with the coolest gear,” said Wild. “I completely abandoned analog gear for mixing and I rely heavily on this system, as I am operating natively and entirely 'in the box.'  UA is applying their vast knowledge of vintage analog gear to the modeling of plug-ins with phenomenal results. That, along with the UAD-2 cards, puts them at the forefront of modern recording technology. Once again, the folks at UA show how dedicated they are to the audio community, and to the future of music production.”

The UAD-2 QUAD: Bringing a Gun to a Knife Fight

We also heard from Geoff Sanoff at Stratosphere Sound in NYC. Geoff’s pretty happy with his UAD-2 QUAD and recently used it on the Stephen Colbert Christmas special. "Talk about bringing a gun to a knife fight. Mixing in the box with the UAD-2 QUAD is more like bringing an atom bomb. I love mixing with the new UAD-2 QUAD card. It has so much power, and the UA plug-ins sound so good, that I can actually get back to working on music and not on working around my computer. This thing has so much power, its almost embarrassing. It's the ultimate street fighting machine."

Carl Glanville with his 2-610 rack
Eight Channels of the Classic 610 Tube Sound for Carl Glanville

Carl Glanville is recording with 8 channels of 610 mic pres. Glanville is a New York-based engineer, producer, and mixer who works extensively with U2, including on their Grammy-winning album How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and on the U2 3D movie. Carl said, “I, like many folks now, record direct into Pro Tools. Nothing is more important to me than the front end I use to make that initial recording. I want to record the sound I expect to hear back. This is achieved by having one's microphone connected to a mic pre and EQ that have the quality and characteristics to deliver a sound that is simultaneously familiar, complimentary and satisfying, one that captures the moment, but also adds a unique color that only comes from specific units such as the UA 610. The sonic picture is completed with the output of the 610 being connected to either my LA-2A or 1176 before being committed to tape (oh, ok, 'disk'--old habits die hard ...). Of course, running signals back through the 610 once recorded is a pleasure also. The 610 is so much more than just a mic pre with line inputs, hi-Z inputs and EQ."
Can’t wait to hear Edge’s guitar through those babies.

Matt Donner with Pyramind's new UA gear
Pyramind Music Production School Goes for Those Classic UA Mic Pres

Pyramind Music Recording School in San Francisco picked up a UA 2-610 and then new 710 Twin Finity mic pres. "Pyramind is completely focused on music and audio production and training," said Matt Donner, Director of Education.  "As such, we are surrounded by the latest in DAW and software tools. However, there is still a large gap between the emulation of hardware and the sound of actual hardware. UA artist and Pyramind instructor Matt Boudreau recommended UA when we needed to grow our preamp selections.  Universal Audio, being focused on hardware and software, does a great job in bridging the gap between the two.  Pyramind is proud of its relationship with UA and its new purchases--the UA 2-610 and the 710 Twin Finity.

“Pyramind also operates as a commercial studio, and clients demand top-rate sound across many genres, whether we're recording VO for commercials or scoring the next AAA video-game title.  Our dedication to quality in production is matched by our delivery of training, and the UA preamps are a perfect fit there. The 710 brings us the choice of either adding color or not through the selectable tube/solid-state blend, as well as 'old-skool' dirt if hit hard enough!  The 2-610 is great for clean preamping with a bit of color and some EQ touch-ups on incoming signals.  I recently fattened up the bottom of a hip-hop/heavy metal project with the 2-610 that I couldn't have re-created in any software tool!"
Thanks Matt!
