Plug-In Power: The Pro Workshop Series
By Dave Crane

This month, we are releasing a series of very informative tutorial DVDs on both mixing and mastering, the Pro Workshop Series from Friedemann Tischmeyer. The two-volume Internal Mixing DVDs cover mixing, and the three-volume Audio mastering series covers mastering. These titles have been available for some time on other websites, but we decided to distribute these because of their wealth of knowledge and practical application of UAD plug-ins. Other plug-ins from key manufactures are used as well, and many principals of mixing and mastering with UAD and other plug-ins are demonstrated with audio examples. These DVD’s are divided up into many different videos, and feature an intuitive player interface that allows you to easily find a specific video if you want to skip around, or review a specific video lesson again. They are not designed to play in a stand along DVD player, rather you should play these DVDs in you DAW computer so you can here the examples in your studio environment. Each DVD is $65.99 and is available in some discounted bundles as well, on our online store.

The series is perfect for future mastering engineers, as well as audio engineers, producers, media technician, and ambitious home studio engineer/musicians who are involved with digital audio on a daily basis and want to attain the best results possible.

For this article, I am featuring the Audio Mastering Series. Because knowledge about digital techniques and skilled handling of digital audio data is a prerequisite for professional mastering, subjects from PCM to jitter to dithering are treated extensively in the Audio Mastering Series.

The series is perfect for future mastering engineers, as well as audio engineers, producers, media technician, and ambitious home studio engineer/musicians who are involved with digital audio on a daily basis and want to attain the best results possible. Even if you never plan on becoming a mastering engineer, knowing what they do and the processes involved in mastering will help you in other key areas of music production. And, maybe after watching a DVD or two, you’ll want to become a mastering engineer!

Chapter 1 covers technical basics with over 180 minutes of video. Chapter 2 (160 minutes) contains a step-by-step description of the ideal workflow using WaveLab 6 as an example. Using practical examples, Chapter 3 (160 minutes) offers a deeper exploration of mastering techniques.

Below are videos excerpts taken directly from the DVD.
