2x Grammy-Winning Producer and Mixer Behind Paramore, Death Cab for Cutie Featured in UA’s "Apollo Creators" Series

Carlos de la Garza reveals the tools and techniques he uses to blend “nostalgia with modern sounds” on award-winning albums

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA – May 19, 2026 – Universal Audio Inc. (UA), a leader in audio production tools, is proud to release the fourth episode in its Apollo Creators video series, spotlighting producer and mix engineer Carlos de la Garza.

Carlos de la Garza’s path to the top began with nothing but a skateboard, a Portastudio 424, and a Boss delay pedal. He’s since produced and mixed some of the most influential indie rock records of the last decade, with credits including Death Cab for Cutie, Paramore, and JJerome 87.

In his Apollo Creators episode, de la Garza shares how he uses nostalgia as an ingredient in his creative process, and why Apollo x16 interfaces and UAD plug-ins are indispensable to his sound.

"The converters I had before were close to 15 years old. When I switched to the newest Apollo X16s, the difference was not subtle," says de la Garza. "It felt like a breath of fresh air. A literal game changer."

The full episode of Apollo Creators is available now on Universal Audio’s blog.
