Teletronix founder Jim Lawrence first used photocells for controlling audio gain in the early 1960s. His ingenious optical compression design was a technological breakthrough. Universal Audio founder Bill Putnam Sr. would later purchase this patented technology, continuing to manufacture the LA-2A for years to come.

The Teletronix LA-2A Leveler Collection puts three of the most coveted incarnations of the iconic Teletronix processor at your fingertips. The LA-2A Silver, LA-2A Gray, and LA-2 models offer distinct variations in control and sound — from compression and headroom settings to unique clipping characteristics.

Add Punch to Drums and Percussion

The cherished late-1960s “Silver” version of the LA-2A is perhaps the most flexible of the three plug-ins in the collection. Its fast time constant makes it suitable for a wide range of sources, including drums and percussion. While Jim Lawrence’s original mid-1960s “Gray” version maintains a more average time constant for “medium-speed” compression on nearly any source.

    LA-2A Levels Up Your Sound!

    The LA-2A Grey is my go-to compressor for my vocal/acoustic guitar tracks. I love this compressor. It's transparent and smooth. This collection is exceptional and I am just so grateful for UAD plugins. Thank you for giving us the tools we need to bring our music to life!

We provide three activations per license. We support activation on your computer or on an iLok USB key.

For every UAD plug-in that supports native and Apollo/UAD-2 versions, you get a license for both upon purchase, or the option to get it through an upgrade.

Native plug-ins are supported on macOS and Windows systems. See our Native UAD System Requirements article for full system requirements. An iLok account is required for managing your native plug-in licenses. We support iLok USB keys for portability, but one is not required.
