My UAD 6176 Fantastic!

sensational sound! I suppose it mostly for vocals recordings but also bass, acoustic guitar and percussions. It always provides a nice fat warm sound as earlier in the analog era. I'm already looking forward to another UAD devices!

Nice sound

Sounds nice. It has a different character than my other pre amps. The compressor works very well. I wish there were switchable dual outputs on the comp. It would make it more flexible in my setup with a console and patch bay. Sounds terrific.

i feel ripped off

They started a promotion a month after I bought this, to get a free Quad core UAD card. I need very badly since my appollo has me tied to my studio to work on sessions and I can't work on the road now. my workflow has been cut by %50 and can't afford to buy one after buying this channel strip and $4000 in plug ins.

the actual hardware is fantastic, 4-5 stars.

the promotion and not being able to get the UAD card a month later, makes me regret my purchase.

i've been trying to sell the unit since, brand new, and havent been able to sell it after 2 months. asking only 1800.

Apollo 8 Thunderbolt

Not a bad unit especially if you know what you are doing
and know the sound your looking for.

This thing just rocks!

I can honestly say this is the best £1800 I have ever spent on a channel strip.
You can get so many tones from it and the compression is second to none.

The build quality is rugged and when you play with the dials it feels solid.
I use it on everything.

Only down side is I wish I had another.

Well done UA :)

Fantastic

This is exactly what I was hoping for.
Warm and tube(y)sound. Full in character.
Makes everything come to life.
Brilliant on vocals and acoustic instruments,
but with a little bit of tweaking, you can make it work all over.

The 6176 actually adds that magic touch ...

has character, attitude...

as expected it has character and attitude. one of my go to pre for vocals but not only for recording also at mixdown i am routing some guitars, vocals or snare through the pre or compressor...split function is great so u can use the pre and comp independently.

i had the spl channel one mkII premium, was never really happy. the 6176 is a great match with my sony c37a tube mic.

My Rating is 10 not just 5.

It's my favorite preamp in the studio, good pre with some valve distortion, for acoustic guitars and vocal is just perfect. That's why we can hear Chris Martin's vocal and Adele's vocal with so softness sound.

Link in the chain.

I have had my 6176 for 7 or 8 years now. I wanted to buy a chain of components that would create the widest range of popular sonic reproduction I could; based on the recording history of the music I am most passion about. The products I choose for my recording chain are:

Neumann U87 AI Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic

Universal Audio 6176 Channel Strip

RME Fireface 800 Audio Interface (use optic throughout)

RME HDSP 9652 52-Channel 24-Bit/96kHz PCI card

I Run Digital Performer (Now on a PC)

I write on a Yamaha XS 88 KEY Workstation

Hear my words...

I have never regretted my purchase of any component listed. The 6176 is everything I hoped it would be as a signature link in my recording chain.

Awesome pristine sound!

I need to be honest… i picked up this gear because i read that Adele uses it. At the beginning i had some troubles doing the setup connecting the 6176 with my apollo. After the help of the people from support i understood that i was needing a microphone that could help to get the best of this gear. The people from support really kindly suggested me the Josephson and since then the results of my recordings are blowing me away. Really amazing. I think that this is an amazing piece of gear, but your really need to have the right tools. Not for the aficionado…. for the one trying to become a pro!

Like opening a window

Picked my first UA product up less than a month ago, I had been paying down on the Layaway balance for months.I would come to the store, have them pull the box out of the back, sing my preamp a song, wrote poems to it, bought it a steak. The usual infatuation and blush. Yadda yadda. Thoroughly enjoying this latest addition to my humble recording setup now, and can hardly wait to lure prospective artists to perform for it. In other words, having a blast. If you've had trouble in the past discerning the differences in your microphones, the 6176 will put all ambiguities to rest. The nuances of each mic stand out like a color for your sonic palette.

Little Beast

This channel strip is an absolute solution for recording vocals, el. guitars, bass, etc. In my home studio the 6176 plays a key role when it comes to input signals. In combination with some of the UAD-2 power plug-ins (Manley MP, LA2A, etc.), this channel strip provides amazing results! A definite recommendation for future users.

Without exaggeration, Universal Audio solutions like the 6176 Vintage Channel Strip make life easier :)

Best Regards,

Mirza

Unbelievable!~

I've used these for years in the studio. Several times in the their separate incarnations (the 610 and the 1176).

This is the real deal. You just have two classic pieces in one unit!

It will add life to any source its fed.

What can I say?

It lives up to its legend and then some. Every studio big and small should have this piece. I've used it for several applications and its never failed to impress.

You don't have one? Just buy it. Now!

6176 Vintage Channel Strip

This unit would be an asset to anyone's sonic arsenal. There are channel strips with tube based overtones (which this has in spades), channel strips with transformer based overtones, and channel strips that pacify those who desire a pristine uncolored path. No one unit does it all, but this amazingly three dimensional tube preamp also has the benefit of being chained with THE desert island compressor, the 1176. If you are unfamiliar with this glorious piece of magic, just read any article about its fans who have used it on countless recordings, in all genres. I personally have used this unit for: vocals, guitars (acoust/elect) drum room, DI for bass-very delicious, dobro, mandolin, banjo, horn sections. It never disappoints. Enjoy!
