Studer® A800 Multichannel Tape Recorder : very nice !
I like to use it in a very subtle way , and 'yes' , this is possible. You need to read the manual to get an idea how to use this PlugIn properly. 5Stars

Love it !
My go to plug in during Mastering. I always have it on my mastering chain. Brings a warmth, glue like quality and an elegance that nothing else can provide. One of the fist plugins I ever purchased for my UAD system.
I find myself using it on my mix bus and group buses every now and then.
I am planning on experimenting a little with this plugin on my recording chain. Just to see what it does.
To sum it u, this is one of the plugins you must have. Voids the purpose of having a UAD system otherwise. Worthy every single penny. Highly recommended.

The One
Of all the plugins I've tested and/or bought over the years, none has had the impact on a "finished" piece of music that the Ampex ATR-102 has. Find your setting, listen for a minute, then bypass this plug. You will be dumbfounded. Truly, I never knew what I was missing. UA makes lots of good plugins, and a number of great ones. This is the One that is indispensable and irreplaceable.

Neve 88RS channel strip for the mix then Studer A800, SPL TwinTube and Precision Equalizer for the premastering.

Ampex is a wonderful plugin!
Ampex is a wonderful plugin! I recommend to use it on the bus and on individual tracks. Ampex with SSL mixer makes it sound alive!

Magic plugins
I have both the Studer and the Ampex plugins. Both are amazing. Just slap it on the master bus or the drum bus or the vocals bus or any other track. Both plugins have a tendency to "center" the sound, clarify it and make it sound more "record". Maybe it's time to get the third tape emulator?

Just put it in the insert and you've got the great smooth sonic sound of tape.

Subtle but nothing like it.......
So many have tried to emulate the distortion and compression effects of tape eg. the Emperical Labs Fatso but I must say this just nails it! I love slamming this with drums and just hearing the effect it has on the drum sound, want that Tame Impala retro drum sound? You need this plugin! I have compared it to Slate and UHE and this wins, it just sounds so natural and responsive- fantastic job UA, a triumph in digital engineering- it is a great time to be a musician.

Freaking awesome! Demo at your own risk (you WILL buy!)
I've been waiting patiently to get this plugin, and I finally had the opportunity (see funds lol) so I did. All I can say is WOW! I am so impressed by the sound that it imparts to the music. I should've gotten it sooner, but I went and got Slate VTM a while ago, and while I still think that's a good plugin, I did some comparisons to the UAD Ampex and it is so much closer to a real tape machine. You can hear the saturation when you hit the tape hard and the resulting sound is just like I remember back in the good old days when I used to overdrive tape. Beautiful sound, easy to use, and very deep if you want to get into the nuances and settings... Get it now! I'm going back to mixing!!!

Spoiled for choice
UAD has given me so many flavors of tape and I find each to be really useful and great for explorative sound sculpting. This deck has found a happy partner in my Tom Oberheim Two Voice Pro. From chugging basses to twinkling tenor range sequences, this deck really allows for a high degree of sheen and shine. I can get each voice to settle down nicely in the mix with this. Great plugin.

I can always find a use for this
Be it degrading the signals a bit to achieve a more lo-fi grunge, to getting psychedelic with the wow & flutter, this tape recorder lives on my busses. I've always dreamt of having my own reel-to-reel, but this has filled my desires completely. I love that it can sound beat up and grimey, or pristine and warmth. I really appreciate the fine level of controls it has (for instance, being able to turn off noise/hum and recording more pristinely) and I've found this plugin greatly rewards experimentation.
