Absolutely Stunning
I can't tell you just how amazing this plugin is, it has to be used and experienced to see just what it does. I previously was using a Slate tape emulation plugin and the difference was very apparent. I still like the Slate for group saturation but for the overall mix this is untouchable.

dig this studer but...
...several other companies emus give it a run for its money. I think the ampex is definitely a class above this, and even prefer oxide, when it comes to uad tape offerings, but this is still a solid workhorse that definitely adds value on a harmonic content level.

What's Old is Standard, What's New is Old, and What's Old is New
The standard, which was old, is the tape we all dig, the new technology never captured the old standard, now the old standard is the new old. Instead of recording through my tape machine, or even recording it in the DAW, then running it back through tape, this does it with no mess, and clean up's a breeze! Look ma, no hands! This is the missing chromosome link in the DNA chain of analog truth.

At the beginning of my Mastering strip everytime!
Even when I place this on my master strip it pulls my track together on Default. The presets are always good enough to find a sound I am after regardless of the style of music I am working on. Cheers UAD!

Great Finish
If you're looking for a way to polish the final mix or as a last step in your mastering chain, this is it. It's the final layer that buffs and polishes the overall sound. Love it.

Just put it on the two bus and watch it turn a good mix into a great one. Best tape emulation period IMHO.

Options
UADs Studer A800 takes whatever you give it and gives it back with a high quality sheen. The options to customize the settings makes this more than just an emulation. It's like having a tape toolbox. There are also plenty of useful presets that work well when you mix into them from the outset. Another hit from UAD.

I have been trying this plugin all over my mixes. I tried it with some keys and it added some incredible warble/vibrato effects when the wow & flutter were dialed up. It also sounds incredible for glue on the master when set with normal settings. Just push the input right where the signal pushes into the tape and pull back a little. I like some of the magic that happens there. It makes transients live in a happy place.

People complain about the low frequency hump, but that is what you would expect from tape! The low frequency 'hump' slightly tames the high frequencies and adds a smooth bottom to anything you feel is lacking those characteristics!

Love the plugin for rich and thick saturation. Great at taming the highs for drums and synths. UAD do it again :)

Adds life to dead tracks
Great for master and drum busses. Can make drums sound nice and fat. It added some life back into tracks that were cut on a less than impressive console. Reacts very similarly to a real machine

Je ne met jamais 5 etoiles à un produit ua, simplement pour le coté financièrement captif de la politique maison. Bref, ici, je ferais abstraction. Qui ne rève pas d'avoir enregistrer sur cette machine ? Ben là, on peut le dire. Yes, you can !! depuis que j'ai acquis ce plug, je reprend tout ce que j'ai en fichier audio pour lui appliquer ce plug sur chaque tranche audio. le resultat dans la couleur du son, dans le grain se remarque tout de suite. De même avec l'ampex, je met systématiquement une iération sur le master de tous mes projets. J'ai eu la chance de pouvoir en utiliser un peu un vrai dans ma jeunesse (ça ne me rajeuni pas..), et vraiment, c'est un produit sensationnel. J'ai même commencé à trifouiller quelques réglages sur ce dernier (utiliser le souffle, bidouillé les potards), c du pur fun et, en plus, je trouve qu'on sent vraiment la "Ampex touch" sur le resultat final.
Si je ne devais en conserver que 2 ce serait ces 2 là. Et en plus, je ne les trouve pas excessivement gourmand pour ce qui est apporté. Vraiment un must !!

This is the plugin that made me take the UAD leap.
This is a wonderful plugin. It comes very close to the original. This plugin goes deep in the amount of tones you can get out of it. I like being able to switch between the sync and play heads. This is a mandatory UAD plugin.

This is a deep plugin.
I have a couple of other tape and saturation plugins, but this one goes deeper than many of the others. I use Slate VTM (which I love), but the UAD Studer gives me a different color to work with. I like the way it saturates when pushed on the 456 setting. I have used Studer A800's a lot and this plugin does a nice job of imparting that familiar character.
