Worth it!
I'm no professional and can't afford outboard gear. But UAD plugs have greatly improved my mixes and this compressor is just brilliant. Been using it as my comp on drum busses and sometimes on my master. Love the sound.

I just love this compressor. It's very versatile and have so much personality. Sounds amazing! This is my new go to compressor. Great job Brainworx and UA!

Sneakily great
Didn't dig it the first few times I tried it. I kept on having people insisting to me that it was amazing. Gave it a third chance and then I caved. Now I can't get it off my 2-mix most of the time!
Transformer options are probably the biggest part of this plug for me. For the way I mix, I end up on Iron a majority of the time. I really don't rely on it for gain reduction [I keep it slow atk/med-fast rel on most songs, maybe 1dB GR at peaks], but the gain and transformer color options are the real cream.
I don't care for the optical section on 2-mix duties, though I haven't given it many chances in that department.
Nice work! Might have to try this on bass next - or get an Apollo and track bass thru this...

Shadow Hills Mastering Comp review
This is my new go to buss compressor. I've tried most aax/rtas buss compressors. I liked using the Slate Digital VBC was using an SSL G compressor (both are still great products) on hardware inserts. The Shadow Hills compressor gives the track warmth and dynamic character. Having the optical and discrete modes make it very flexable.

Mastering Tools Is What I Need
The shadowhills Mastering compressor I use onall my Recordings then the presision limiter to crank up the tracks to its highest commercial potential without peaking. ITS A PERFECT COMBO for me...I have several friends looking to mimic this formula at the end of the mastering chain and they will be hawking UAD when they have them on sale to purchase them...

Just having this as an insert without compressing will still sound amazing!
This compressor is amazing. Half of the time I use it, I won't even compress anything with it - I'll use it just for the "sound" of the unit. It adds a really nice warmth to anything it's on. Works great on drums or on a bus. It does take a bit of getting used to due to the design of it having so many sections but once you've got the hang of it, you'll be impressed.

Man oooh Man.. Great on Buss, Channels, and Mastering Engineers, You gotta grab this one.. 3 Different tones, nice compression options, Smooth to Aggressive!!
If you don't want to spent 7-8 grand on the hardware, this is as close are your gonna get to Owning a Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor!!

Very underrated.
Pros:
Versatile, unique, beautiful "color" in nickel mode, glues track excellently, can serve as channel or bus compressor, low dsp usage.
Cons:
Lacks the size and weight of the hardware.
This is a unique and impressive compressor in the box, and definitely worth a look.

A DAB WILL DO YA!
To be perfectly honest I didn't like this plug-in at first because of the results I was getting. I bought it based on the reputation of the actual unit and that I had to pick a third plug-in after purchasing my first Apollo interface. After further research and really understanding how this plug-in processes sound, I fell in love with it. Once I understood the multi-tier processing that you can use or by-pass , I started getting better results. GET TO KNOW THIS PLUG-IN, it's awesome , only a dab will do ya!!

Compressor does not have the depth as the original, where is that analog 3D sound?
It's sharp :(
In original unit sweet punch is focused on high frequency and sounds fantastic, open, airy and fresh.
Low frequencys sounds warm and natural.
In UAD version that punch is harsh, highs sounds digital.
Low freq sounds not se deep and not natural.
Sorry UAD, as a customer I must say - that is not good emulation :(
I only hope that in future will be better version.

Best Compressor for Mastering
If you need some glue for mixing, colour and punch, this is one off the best software master compressor i know. I have trying many comp Software for colour and glue, but this is my favorite. I confess i didn't like him the first time i try, but working with him some hours and understand what it does, makes all the difference. It´s amazing in Mix Buss, Vocals, some Acoustic guitars and Drum buss. Can´t live without it. Congratulations UA / BX.

Very Good....
I must confess i demo`d this plug months ago and just by experiment with presets, i did n like him, but fortunately UA resets demos in every new release, and i had a second opportunity to demo it...my advice: take your time and demo it in the master buss, Drums, basses and some vocals, and you will see that´s one of the best plugins made by UA and Brainvox...i can´t stop using it anymore. Congratulations UA for given us the chance to have the taste of one so expensive machine in our mixes.

The Ultimate Compressor
I have never been able to achieve this type of compression before. When i really want to smack something this is what I am using!! Great investment for #engineeraudio

This is just awesome... great compressor, or shoud I say compressors?
Can't go wrong with this... Like it very much. Shave off with the first compressor & let the second compressor do the real tough work... nice.

Nice compression, no coloration
The Shadow Hills Mastering Compressor is another Brainworx product and you can hear that instantly. The compression algorithms are nice, but there is almost no harmonic coloration. It sounds very clean without adding any color, character or vibe to the sound. The plug-in interface looks awesome but the sound is rather mediocre. Looking under the hood (17 instances vs. 4 instances for the FATSO per DSP) you quickly realize the true quality of the plug-in shows only in its visual interface not in the sound quality underneath it. I would love to see an emulation of the Shadow Hills Compressor done by Softube, they put sound first and invest time and time again into actually replicating the analog sound and simply get it right.
