The bx_refinement is specifically designed to smooth out harsh sounding recordings and to breathe life in the music. Heavily compressed tracks can often sound harsh. bx_refinement allows you to round off those hard edges and create a warmer, more analog sounding track, without losing the punch of the original.
Other mastering processors are designed to solve specific problems like frequency or level imbalances-usually at some cost to the character of the recorded audio--bx_refinement is designed to more subtly smooth out and refine audio without changing the character of the source.
By being able to balance between the de-harshing effect of the damping and adding back in saturation and presence, you can make “loud” mixes sound warm and analog while maintaining high levels.
While bx_refinement can be used on any source, it was designed as a mastering tool so mixed stereo music tracks are its primary application.
