2192 AND 2-1176 NOMINATED FOR 2004 TEC AWARDS, LA-2A INDUCTED INTO TECNOLOGY HALL OF FAME

SANTA CRUZ, CA, USA-JULY 15, 2004 -Universal Audio, a manufacturer of high-quality vintage audio hardware and DSP software plug-ins for digital audio workstations, announced today that the 2912 Master Audio Interface, and 2-1176 Twin Vintage Limiting Amplifier, have both received 2004 TEC Award nominations from the Mix Foundation for Excellence in Audio for the categories of Digital Converter Technology and Signal Processing Technology/Hardware. The Teletronix LA-2A Leveling Amplifier was also selected as one of the inductees for the newly created Technology Hall of Fame, which recognizes products and innovations that have had a lasting impact on the development of audio technology.

The induction of the LA-2A into the TEC Hall Of Fame is ultimately a satisfying recognition of the core audio engineering and audio equipment values that Bill Putnam put in place in the late 50's and 60's. The 2-1176 Twin Vintage Limiting amplifier builds from the circuit design of UA's hugely successful 6176 Channel Strip and combines two 1176 channels from that unit-an uncompromising design with matched FET's and output transformers. The 2-1176 can run in Stereo or Dual Mono with completely independent compression and gain controls in dual mono mode. The 2-1176 preserves the classic all-button or "British" mode of the legendary 1176LN and adds a new 1:1 compression ratio option which allows it to be used as a 'tone-box" for coloration without compression.

The 2192 Master Digital Audio Interface is the first product to combine Universal Audio's long history of creating high-quality, vintage analog gear with its advanced digital technology. While features like sample rates up to 192K, realtime transcoding between AES/EBU, S/PDIF and ADAT, and support for single and dual wire AES modes are sure to impress, what really sets the 2192 apart is its Class-A analog circuitry, which provides luscious detail and clarity, while retaining the warmth and character of the original source, features typically not found in digital units. The 2192 utilizes a DC-coupled, fully dual-differential, matched-FET, all discrete Class-A, no-compromises analog signal path with no capacitors in the signal path to degrade sound quality or introduce phase distortion.

A Voter's Guide and a non-reproducible ballot appear in the September issue of Mix magazine. The final voting for the TEC Awards is the responsibility of the roughly 41,000 BPA-qualified Mix subscribers. Returned ballots are submitted for tabulation to the certified public accounting firm of Mark Elsberg & Associates, and the winners' names are kept in confidence until the evening's ceremony.

The Nominating Panel and the editors of Mix select the TEC Awards Hall of Fame inductee. The editors of Mix and the Board of Directors of the Mix Foundation choose the recipient of the Les Paul Award.
