Best Guitar Amp Sims for 2026
Tired of weak guitar recordings? Our amp sim buyer’s guide is here to help.
Getting an electric guitar to sound natural in your DAW can be tricky. Whether you choose a plug‑in workflow, or an amp sim pedal into your audio interface, this is the gear you can rely on for incredible tones in 2026.

Capturing a digital emulation of a guitar amp requires precise modeling. Today, the best amp sim plug-ins and pedals perfectly capture the sound and feel of playing through a real miked-up amp.
What to Look for in an Amp Sim
End-to-end amplifier emulation
On guitar amps, the preamp and power amp are responsible for the gain structure, dynamics, and harmonics. This is where a majority of the amp’s tone and character come from. It's also where a lot of amp sims can fall flat.
At UA we model classic guitar amps at the component level — recreating the tubes, transformers, resistors and capacitors, part by part, in the digital world. This process, called physical modeling, is the best way to model complex "systems" like old guitar amps.
Another technique, signal modeling, can also be used to capture aspects of an amp’s sound. Signal modeling records a series of test signals, like snapshots, to build an amp model. The result can sound accurate at certain settings, but can lack feel and realism at all points on the dial.
Dynamic speaker modeling
Guitar cabinet and speaker modeling is another big part of an amp simulation's believability.
Impulse responses (IRs) are the most common method used to capture a guitar cabinet in the digital world. But since they only take a static snapshot of the amp, they too can lack some of the realism and dynamics of playing an amp live, at volume.
At UA, we go a step further with dynamic speaker modeling. This technique combines physical cabinet, mic, and room modeling — as separate elements with their own response curves. This gives you all the sonics of a real amp, with the inspiring feel and harmonics of playing at volume in a live room.

The UAD Enigmatic '82 plug-in is built upon two distinct Dumble voices: the clean “Jazz” channel that blooms with shimmer and warmth, and the “Rock” channel that delivers the amp's signature overdrive and compression.
Best UAFX Amp Pedals
When you want the sound and feel of iconic tube amps right on your pedalboard, UAFX amp emulator pedals give you a more authentic playing experience than typical amp sim plug-ins. Designed to sit alongside your other stompboxes, they become the “amp” in your rig.
