What They Say

I grew up using tape and analog consoles, and LUNA is as close as I can get to the sound and workflow of my old Studer and Neve setups.

Butch Walker

Green Day, Weezer, Fall Out Boy

LUNA lets me forget that I'm using a computer to make music. And the crazy-low latency workflow with my Apollo has further blurred the line between production and mixing for me — I can just make records.

    I Really Tried

A long time Cubase / Nuendo / UAD Apollo x8 user. Love the UAD plugins. Super excited to give Luna Pro a try when update 2 was released. Loved the sound and feel when I installed it, and converted about 25 projects to Luna. I put up with the frequent crashes on startup and when adding plugins (even UAD DSPs), and spent a lot of time disabling and enabling plugins and tweaking Windows to try to get things to stabilize. When Nuendo 15 was released with great Atmos support, I went back to Steinberg and now I LOVE mixing and mastering in Nuendo and Wavelab. No crashes, and the sound and flexibility with working in Atmos is terrific. Big learning curve for Atmos, but it seems to be the way to go. So, sorry Luna. Nice software, but Luna's instability is quite frustrating. Increased to two stars because of Luna's cool and unique summing workflow.

    Sounds Great

LUNA sounds great just with initial setup. I was up and running and mixing previously recorded tracks in short order. Punch and clarity were present in equal measures; I was even able to discern the low strings on my Rickenbacker 12. Been using Reaper for over 10 years, and will continue to use it for certain tasks, but LUNA knocked me out - signed up for Pro. Thanks!

    I want to love it

I really do want to love it. I love the analog feel of the console inserts. Really bad ass stuff. However, when I try to use certain plugins for example I have a slate digital subscription. Every time I try to put one of the slate plugins in my session the session crashes. It’s actually putting me in a tough spot. I’m gonna have a choice of the two unless these issues will be resolved. I do want to buy the full version because of these console elements. It would be cool if there were also more options added for that. For someone who always worked in the box it’s an experience to say the least.

Has potential but not worth the headache

I am a huge fan of Universal Audio and I associate the name with the highest of quality. I am very disappointed in the LUNA DAW. I expected more from my favorite plugin company. I hate that it needs internet connection to run. It regularly kicks me out of sessions forcing to reopen it. I also dislike the fact that I need to connect my interface in order to use it. Sure, if you're recording audio then it's going to have to be plugged in anyway, but you can't just hook up a midi keyboard and make beats on LUNA. Or if you're going to just mix some tracks, you still need to hook up an interface. You can't even playback anything without an interface hooked up. I do really appreciate that it is free and that is why there are two stars and not one. If it could run offline, didn't kick me out of sessions, and didn't always require an interface to run I would probably give it at least four stars because I do like it. But because of these features I'm going back to Cakewalk for my free DAW to use on my mobile setup. I look forward to trying LUNA again in the future if changes are made.
