Get all the bloom, chime, and grind of Leo Fender’s most iconic amplifier.

Vintage Fender tweed Deluxe amplifiers are the Holy Grail of tone for good reason. Their low-volume clean sounds are pristine and complex. And as you inch the volume upward, you’re greeted with sweet, blooming overdrive, before arriving at full-on distorted, utterly viscous tube saturation.

After two-plus years of research and development, Universal Audio is proud to introduce the Fender ’55 Tweed Deluxe plug-in for UAD-2 hardware and Apollo interfaces. Designed 100% by Universal Audio, and endorsed by Fender Musical Instruments, the ’55 Tweed Deluxe plug-in captures every nuance of this historically unrivaled tone machine by emulating every last ingredient of the hallowed 5E3 Deluxe circuit.

Use your Apollo to track through the only authentic emulation of a 1955 Fender tweed Deluxe amplifier — with no latency

Hear the results of an exhaustive two-year R&D project — the first real guitar amp emulation

Easily track perfect studio amp tones with different microphone combinations and placements — without phase issues

Fender '55 Tweed Deluxe with Josh Smith

History of Tweed

History of Tweed

The Deluxe was one of Leo Fender's first amp designs, with early versions being produced in 1946 — years before the release of his first solidbody electric guitars. After various circuit tweaks, Fender landed on the now historic, "wide-panel" 5E3 Deluxe in 1955. This version became a favorite among country, blues, and early rock players as the ultimate bar gig, mid-sized club, and studio amp, with its single 12" speaker and two 6V6 power tubes delivering around 15 watts.

Endless Tones

Endless Tones

Before the invention of overdrive, boost, and distortion pedals, recording engineers and guitarists valued the tweed Deluxe’s uncanny ability to seemingly speak to the microphone with a perfect balance of sweetness, detail, compression, and, when cranked, glorious raunch. From Neil Young’s feral roar to Daniel Lanois’ lilting textures, Billy Gibbons’ early boogie to Larry Carlton’s singing lead tones, the tweed Deluxe seemingly begged to be recorded.

Through Science We Found… Magic

Through Science We Found… Magic

To that end, Universal Audio chose two bone-stock 1955 tweed Deluxe amps as “golden units” to be emulated. This began a two-year R&D project to capture every single component — from speaker paper and heat dissipation, to filter caps and transformers — the essential ingredients that allow the tweed Deluxe to deliver expressive, dynamic, easy-to-record sounds, with only Volume and Tone controls.

Three Genre-Defining Speaker Choices

Three Genre-Defining Speaker Choices

The ’55 Tweed Deluxe plug-in gives you three common “hot rod” speaker mods that pros have been using for over 40 years. The stock 1955 Jensen P12R speaker gives you jangly treble and thick bottom, while the 25-watt Celestion yields thicker mids, velvety treble, and a more aggressive voice. Finally, the JBL-D120F — a 120-watt hi-fi beast — stays clean and pristine with more airy presence than the stock Jensen, giving you extended treble snap.

Expertly Placed Dual Mic Setup

Expertly Placed Dual Mic Setup

The ’55 Tweed Deluxe plug-in offers expertly placed multi-mic tones with a collection of legendary mics — and zero phase issues. Mix and match with a rare '60s Beyer M160 and white Sennheiser MD-421 mics, a modern Royer R-121, and a hand-picked vintage Neumann U-67 from Ocean Way Studios. And use the intuitive Mic Mixer to season your tones with separate Level, Pan, and high-pass filter. Additionally, you can set each mic to a secondary off-axis position for further tone tweaking.

Unison™ Technology for Apollo Interfaces

Unison Technology for Apollo Interfaces

Harnessing UA’s groundbreaking Unison technology, the Fender '55 Tweed Deluxe plug-in gives you the impedance, gain staging, and circuit behaviors that have contributed to making the tweed Deluxe one of the most recorded guitar amps in history. And like the original amp, you can plug into any of the amp’s four inputs and achieve different gain levels or impedance changes, or plug in using a vintage “Y” cable to jump the inputs and blend the channels.

      Unable to activate software.

Since you created the new UA app, it is a complete nightmare to have my new purchased plugins activated. This one is impossible to activate. I have wasted 49 USD on this one. There is two other UAD plugins that I would like to purchase but your activation process is so complicated that I have decided to look for another brand that is more user friendly.

      Creamy, smooth distortion

I really like the creamy nature of these amp's distorted output. It's really quite smooth and warm. I have seen reviews by people having issues with noise, In my experience , as long as you manage the input gain to the amp, it's actually really usuable. I purchased it for a steal during the sales and am absolutely delighted with the value. I pair it with a MIM Fender Strat HSS and I'm really enjoying the tones I get from it.

My favorite guitar amp at the moment

In my years of experience as a professional musician I have had the opportunity to play live and in the studio with many amplifiers, multi-effects pedals and among others, since I tried this ua plugins I fell in love, it responds very well to the dynamics of my hands when playing In a short time I have already recorded many projects with Fender UA plugins and the producers and engineers have been very satisfied with the good results. I am very happy and I recommend it.

Missing From My Plug - In List

My recent purchases of the Waterfall Organ and Speaker, along with the Capital Compressor are currently not included in my UA Plug- Ins List. These 3 Plug - Ins show up as "Owned" on product sale pages, but again, are not listed along with the 116 other UA Plug - Ins I have purchased over the past several years. Please correct this omission. Then I can write product reviews.
      Respectfully,

      The Native whingers v Apollo

More about the tweed in a sec. So obviously UAD where always going native,or popular. Look at the Native users here moaning about DSP. The very same Waves users who for years have cried foul that UAD interfaces to operate plug ins are some kind of con. Oh dear. Here they are with their Scarlet interfaces running 2 plugins on a Levo lappy that fails like an old donkey. Must have a zillion plugs in order to be good. Nope. A plan, thinking, a work flow is what they failed to recognise. But so have UAD. The constant never ending sale and give aways. The current choices. Luna, irrelevant and redundant since day one. The Spitfire range a total collapse. The complete lack of transparency reg modeling ( is there any at all?), and the big big push to convince. The Apollo interfaces are awesome, sound fantastic with a work flow dream. The plugins that emulate are about as good as it gets right now but nothing like the outboard, nothing. Anyone who thinks the flagship 1176 is like the analogue has lost the sense of hearing. UAD is heading south artistically but killing it financially. So as for the Tweed, it's just that. It's fine, it looks like it so it is, kinda. If this is what you have it's what you have. But if you can find yourself in a room with a Tweed cranked, it'll change the way you play. And that is all there is to know.

      A time saver.

I am the owner of several fender vintage amplifiers. With this plugin and some tweaking you can get very close to the original sound of the amplifiers. Saves a lot of time in miking , noise reduction and other problems with vintage amplifiers thank you universal audio for another great plugin.

      Great!

Using this along with the Marshal Plexi covers most of what we use in the studio and it sounds great!

Great to track through or process a DI with after

Demoed this one a million times when I needed a quick decent sounding guitar amp in a snap on a session, without adding to noise and bleed in the room. When gain staged correctly (note the line/normal switch, which is what makes this usable) this thing sings! One of the better sounding amp simulations for your DAW.

How can anyone think this responds like an amp

I gave this another demo to see if I was missing something…..nope, it’s just horrible and has an ugly clipping on the input no matter what you do…..just an ugly clipping nothing like an amp. The signal even from a Telecaster is just too hot for the input and it clips. Just useless . How anyone can give this 1 star is beyond me. I had to give it 1 instead of the zero it deserves. My guess is those who like it run a stack of distortion and never notice the ugly clipping right at the beginning of the chain.

Maybe the most realistic gtr plugin I ve ever played!

I own, worked on, set and tried a lot of Gtr Amps as plug-ins. This one feels like the closest to a real Amp feeling, in sound , in hands and in vibe. It is plug 'n play, in whichever setting you adjust. I own a 70's vintage Peavy VT series which I love, and the plug in brings me the same experience. The only thing I d like to be added, is a vintage built in spring reverb. I know I use aux sends in the UAD console, but the build is different because it's added ro the circuit of the Amp.

      Lots of options

This sounds like the real thing which I have - when played with for a bit that is. There are experiments using the software which I honestly didn’t know about for the real thing (certain combinations, wiring configuration, etc) so I have learnt a lot about the real world thing too!

      Sounds just great!

Just the right Fender tones! Easy to get sound from a clear and smooth old amp to a bluesy feeling.
