Cooper® Time Cube Mk II Delay Plug-In

Unique, Garden Hose-Based Mechanical Delay Device, Captured as a Plug-In

The original Cooper Time Cube was a Duane H. Cooper and Bill Putnam collaborative design that brought a garden hose-based mechanical delay to the world in 1971, and has achieved cult status as the most unique delay ever made. The Cooper Time Cube is famous for its spectacular short delay and doubling effects and its uncanny ability to sit perfectly in the mix. The new Cooper Time Cube MkII has all the sound of the original delay system, while offering modern delay device features: Delay, Decay, Pan and Volume controls plus Tempo Sync and Automation for each of two independent delay lines.

The original CTC had limited practicality as a full-featured delay; only 14, 16 or 30 ms settings were available. Over the years, this quirky device has grown a strong following and finds a home in the most prestigious studios in the world, such as Blackbird and Sunset Sound. Top producers and engineers such as Richard Dodd, Vance Powell and Joe Chicarelli still swear by the Cooper Time Cube for its unique character.>

The distinct sound of the single or double hose Coil is preserved regardless of delay setting, and either sound is available at the flick of a switch. The Cooper time Cube MkII also incorporates other enhanced tone shifting features such as the Color switch that presents the user with the original (A) or “leveled” (B) frequency response, plus tone controls and a 2-Pole High Pass Filter. Lastly, a switch is presented for soloing the Wet signal and the Send switch allows momentary interruption of the signal being sent into the delay system.

"One of my favorites [UAD Plug-Ins] is the Cooper Time Cube ... Much easier than bringing thru a box with garden hoses inside."

    Garrett Haines

    (Tape Op Magazine)

"Should mix engineers buy this [Manley Massive Passive] plug-in? YES. If they don’t have a UAD-2, should they buy one just for this plug-in? YES. You’re also going to want a license for the FATSO and Cooper Time Cube as well."

    Paul White

    (Sound On Sound)

"The sound you get from this [Cooper Time Cube] sits very well in a mix, lending a nice, vintage, homogenous character."

    Paul White

    (Sound On Sound)

"[Cooper Time Cube, EMT 250, or FATSO] ... for the real vintage character, I don't think UA have any rivals at the moment."

    Jono Buchanan

    (Future Music UK)

"It's perfect to create a width around your tracks, adding subtle space and depth while creating thickness with ease."

  • (Computer Music UK)

"The [Cooper Time Cube] has a sound that you'd struggle struggle to achieve with a regular delay."

    Tempo change?
    by J. HICKS(Wednesday 12 August, 2015)

Have a song on guitar with delay and a slight tempo change for the chorus, so it jumps back and forth between the two. I went through all the delays I had and they would all distort the delay when the time changed until I found this one, just delays whatever it hears instead of going all… Read More

    Magic in a box
    by R. Rajaram(Thursday 6 August, 2015)

There's really no other plugin that does what the time cube does. It wraps the source with this beautiful sense of space and blends like it was a part of it to begin with. You wouldn't even know it's there until you mute it, but when you do the whole world just becomes a sadder place. Get… Read More

    by j. elliott(Tuesday 30 June, 2015)

certainly not a jack of all trades plug/bit of a one trick, but as they say, oh what a trick! a very cool unique delay, and i've yet to find a competitor who can replicate quite what it does. can be pushed into some weird & dubby places, and great on vocals. great slapback too. been… Read More

    very useful
    by V. Koenig(Sunday 14 June, 2015)

A very simple and useful delay. It can sound very warm and if you like very cold and clean. The short decay time is a godsend, no muddy delaylines in the mix. All sounds clear. One wish i have, maybe one or two lfo`s this will be great :) cheers Read More

Its not bad, its not Great but it can be.
    by B. Davis(Saturday 13 June, 2015)

Okay so I demoed the Cooper & Tape Echo. The tape Echo is okay but I believe it won't be hard to replicate the sound with other plugins. the Cooper Time Cube I personally believe is a more useful plugin. I probably won't be buying it for varying reasons but here's the pros. Pros -… Read More
