The Teletronix Story
Teletronix founder Jim Lawrence first used photocells for controlling audio gain in the early 1960s. His ingenious optical compression design was a technological breakthrough, far surpassing the stability and transparency of earlier circuits. Universal Audio founder M.T. ”Bill” Putnam later purchased this patented technology, continuing to manufacture the LA-2A for years to come.
Three Historical Units
The Teletronix LA-2A Leveler Collection puts three of the most coveted incarnations of the iconic Teletronix processor at your fingertips. Like the hardware, the LA-2A Silver, LA-2A Gray, and LA-2 models offer distinct variations in time constants, compression knee, headroom, distortion, program and frequency dependence, and more.
LA-2A Silver & Gray
With a brushed aluminum panel and original T4B gain reduction module, this cherished late-1960s “Silver” version of the LA-2A, manufactured by Bill Putnam, is perhaps the most flexible of the three plug-ins in the collection. Its fast time constant makes it suitable for the widest variety of program material, including transient-rich sources like drums and percussion. Jim Lawrence’s original mid-1960s “Gray” version the LA-2A maintains a more average time constant, providing a range of “medium-speed” compression.
The Original LA-2
The exceptionally rare, early 1960s LA-2 unit preceded the LA-2A by several years. It provides the slowest response and a unique “mellowed” sound due to 50 years of luminescent panel aging inside the T4 module. Use the LA-2 with legato tempos and vocal sources for a transparency and sublime mood unlike any other compressor.

Amazing!!!!
I just want to say I´ve had no experience with UAD before a student of mine told me about your Free Offer for the LA.-2A Tube Compressor. I downloaded it, and tried it out on a snare, and the sound was Amazing!!! I then bought the LA-2A Leveler Collection for 29€ or something. Incredible price!!! I then saw that the entire UAD Mixing Edition was on sale as an upgrade from the Free LA-2A for 215€. For that price I had to buy it, and I´m glad I did. So many amazing plugins in that bundle. Especially the 1176, and LA-2A, but the API, and Pultec are great as well. I´m a VERY happy customer!!!

Does not load from ilok
All my other UA products work with no issues but the 2A will not load to my daw. I've purchased it once and downloaded the free version once. I see on my ilok list but it does not show up in my fx in my daw for some reason. Love all my other UA stuff though.

Sounds just like my hardware
I own a few of the hardware La2a versions and was skeptical how the digital versions would treat the low end and what the color would be like under heavy compression. Much to my delight, an incredible amount of time and detail went in to the digital versions, as they treat the signal the exact same way as my hardware versions!

Every time I listen back to something I recorded, I am blown away by the sonic quality. It’s incredible. How good things sound without adding any plug-ins. Once I throw in a couple of plug-ins, it really does bring everything together and I’m only scratching the surface at this point . This bundle is an awesome addition to my plug and collection. Simple controls easy to use and get fantastic results. I love my Apollo crazy about plug-ins and I want more! Thanks Universal Audio!!!

I have three different version of the LA2A compressor from various creators. The Universal is the one that recreates the sound of the LA-2A perfectly. The others are close, but the UAD nail sit to a T and is now my Go To compressor whenever I need or want an LA2A. So many uses for the collection, and the variations in tonality and function are right on the money.

What can i say, amazing compressors at an amazing price. Been using them on everything. Especially loving the all buttons in function for that classic 1176 sound.

Worth the hype.
I've tested a few UA plugins lately and honestly they didn't all "blow my mind" compared to their alternatives but this one is a keeper. It adds a little polish and some stereo perspective that instantly gives a better feel to your vocals. The compression itself works well but the character is where it really shines. No other compressor plugin does that in my pretty extensive library... Totally worth it!
