Pre at really minimal gain - add a LA 2 A
for some gain ... buss some Lexicon verb...
= hit track .

Adds that sheen/magic sparkle and bottom
I was a bit apprehensive about purchasing this but after hearing the demo I knew right off that those ultra highs that really make a vocal pop or guitar cut through are very present with this strip. The bottom end really adds some meat as well.
Very analog sounding and a definite recommend for anyone with a halfway decent microphone.

Eh...not great
Professional mixer/sound recordist here- I've really tried to like this plug-in, but it just doesn't sound that great. Nearly ever blind A/B test I've done with this pre vs. other pres, the Neve has paled in comparison. To be honest I'm not quite sure why all the positive reviews, I find it hardly useful for tracking or mixing, even after trying it on a variety of sources. Not too impressed, and definitely feeling a bit of buyer's remorse.

It’s about time someone modeled the superior 1084. I was getting tired of explaining to people that they are a notch up from the 1073. I have 8 well maintained units. I can testify that this UAD model really nails the tone. Thanks UA!!

Perfect Preamp
This is just the perfect preamp. At the end of the day I think making EQ changes in your DAW makes more sense than on the way in. This preamp into LA2A is mind blowing. Sometimes this preamp is turned off and when I’m singing I’m like why does this feel so terrible. I hit the power button on the Neve and it’s insane the difference. The last thing I will say is a lot of time less options are actually better. I have 4 other UAD preamps and I feel like I wasted money because this is the only one I ever want to use. This is the perfect Preamp

My go to pre for tracking and mixing since I got it...
Was a pretty big fan of the UA 1073 and now I've been using UA 1084 nonstop. It is a better mousetrap - adding reimagined frequencies, narrow/wide ‘Q’ control, making some bands semi-parametric, allowing for subtle ‘air’ and for surgically notching out offending frequencies, getting rid of ribbon hiss etc... I've found it's adding warmth and depth to vocals, guitars, and acoustic instruments of all kinds. Go to pre/eq for tracking and mixing - instant success with acoustic and electric guitars and bass so far. Highly recommended and hard to beat the price for Neve owners.
