KORG® SDD-3000 Digital Delay
-
The delay that revolutionized modern rock and pop.
Introduced in 1982, the KORG SDD-3000 Digital Delay was popularized by U2 guitarist, The Edge, to forge one of the most identifiable guitar sounds in the history of rock. Far from a one-instrument-pony, however, the SDD-3000 also found a home in early new wave and 80’s synth music. Fully endorsed by KORG, the KORG SDD-3000 Digital Delay plug-in for UAD and Apollo interfaces exactly captures the original unit’s colorful analog circuitry, and burnished-sounding 13-bit delays.
Now You Can:
Tap into the song‑inspiring sounds of the legendary KORG SDD-3000 Digital Delay in a fully authenticated plug‑in
Add unique, chewy 13-bit delay, phase, flange, and chorus to guitar, synths, vocals and more
Get the dynamic interaction of the SDD-3000’s analog preamp stage with Unison™ technology for Apollo interfaces
Use Hold function to layer shimmering pads and soundscapes

An Iconic Rack Unit
Beginning with U2’s The Unforgettable Fire, The Edge took his guitar textures to a whole new level using the KORG SDD-3000’s responsive dynamics and colorful sonic palette. The Unforgettable Fire sessions turned Daniel Lanois onto the unit, and it has since become a staple of his studio and live rig, as well as that of electronic music icon William Orbit.
Legendary Delay
With just over a second of old school, 13-bit delay, the KORG SDD-3000 is famous for its percussive, rhythmic repeats. Like the original, you can select any value up to 1023 milliseconds, or you can simply use the plug-in-only Sync control to line up the repeats to your DAW’s tempo. The plug-in’s Delay Time window also features a handy drop down menu for assorted routing variations.
An End-to-End Circuit Emulation
Universal Audio meticulously modeled a vintage "golden unit" KORG SDD-3000 Digital Delay, immaculately capturing its famed analog preamp and output section. Filled with JRC-made op-amps — the same type as many classic preamp, boost, and overdrive pedals of the era — the UAD KORG SDD-3000 Digital Delay plug-in precisely emulates this ultra-musical analog circuit.
Swirly Goodness
The KORG SDD-3000 plug-in’s Modulation section is the secret to adding depth and motion to your echoes. Use the Intensity knob to adjust the pitch variation of your repeats, while the Frequency control conjures varying degrees of subtle movement and vibrato — crucial for long, Daniel Lanois-esque pillowy delays. Lastly, the Waveform selector lets you craft complex phase, flange, and chorus effects that are simply unobtainable with any other unit.
Feedback, Hold, and Filtering
The Regeneration section of the KORG SDD-3000 plug-in is an ambient effect lover's dream. You can dial in simple slapback to long trails, or instant oscillation using the Feedback control. And, if you like what you've created, simply hit the Hold button and freeze that sound in place. Finally, the Filter controls offer tons of tone shaping, letting you add air or chewy warmth to repeats— perfect for guitars, synths, drums, vocals, and more.
Unison Technology for Apollo Interfaces
Harnessing UA’s groundbreaking Unison technology, the KORG SDD-3000 plug-in delivers all the analog and digital goodness of the original with the impedance, gain staging, and quirky behaviors that have made the rack unit legend.
New Features
While the original KORG SDD-3000 had to be cabled up for a mono and dedicated dry out, the UAD KORG SDD-3000 plug-in gives you five options from a drop down menu. Plus, you can use a dedicated Position control to place the effect anywhere in the stereo field.
“The new UAD KORG SDD-3000 works magic on both external and soft synths, creating a wickedly timed arpeggiated sound in seconds.”
– Dean Coleman“Back in the day the KORG SDD-3000 was a bit of an oddball — was it a guitar effect or a studio processor? UA has captured all the idiosyncrasies and unique overdrive textures of the original hardware.”
– Chuck Zwicky (Prince, Soul Asylum, Reggie Watts)“The KORG SDD-3000 plug-in gives you everything from standard delay taps to thick stereo widening. Also, set the input to -30dB and you’ll get a nice distortion, giving your soft synths some extra mojo.”

Sounds like an actual SDD 3000 and you can run 2 for stereo. I should have bought this a long time ago. You can drive it into the red like the original. If you want the sound of U-2's Edge run this with a Vox AC30 and you're there. Love it.

The perfect delay
Was working on a new track and was looking for for the perfect delay for a piano. Tried all the usual suspects and nothing was satisfying me. Decided to demo the Korg and within a few samplings of the presets found exactly what I was wanting to hear. Have always loved The Edge’s use or delay on his guitar but am finding this adds great texture to so many different instruments!

Great delay plugin
This is a great emulation of a classic. You can put it on any material, but it really shine w/ electric guitars. This is caused by the fact that this plugin has a grit to it. I am not surprised that Daniel Lanois and The Edge found it great too.

Excellent Version
Years ago, I had the opportunity to have used the hardware version. I find the UA software to be an excellent recreation of the unit right.

Great tones from a classic delay unit
The SDD 3000 is awesome. It sounds pretty much like the old units in the real world - warm and lush. Highly recommended.

He won't let me open the plug-in
Last November 27th I bought the Korg SDD-300 Digital Delay Plug-in, I have the invoice, the charge made to my credit card and to my Universal Audio account it is stated that I own the Kord SSD-3000 Digital Delay and even Universal Audio sent me an email to write a review.
For 14 days it has let me use it and now when I try to open the Plug-in I get "demo expired". That same day I bought 4 more plug-ins and have not had any problem opening them.
Why can't I open the plug-in I bought? I have not been able to use it for 3 days.
Please contact me to solve this problem.
Thank youF. Perdigón

An exact replication of the hardware
I have the pedal version (yes they made a pedal version in addition to the famous rack mount) and the UAD version is an exact duplicate (without the noise created by the pedal). In addition to eliminating the noise the UAD version makes it possible to put multiple instances of the plugin in my mixes rather than having to record into the DAW with the pedal. I absolutely love it!

Un tour du coté de the edge
Mon delay préféré, j'en possède même la version Hardware et on retrouve le son de son entrée si crunchy et particulière grâce à l'unisson d'UAD.

Smooth Delay and Clean (accurate) Filters
This is the only delay unit I regularly use. Add a mono Korg SDD 3000 to a guitar or plucked synth, followed directly by a mono Lexicon 480L, sounds like magic!

It’s Perfect!
As a guitarist who lived and gigged in the 1980’s and early 90’s, I have a bit of experience with the real SDD-3000 . It was mandatory to do a deep dive in to every facet of the rack unit in order to recreate all the classic 80’s songs. I was pleasantly surprised when I plugged in a Strat and dialed up one of my old presets. It was spot on. The delay, drive, modulation - it was perfect.
The overdrive of the SDD is one of its best kept secrets - especially with single coil guitars, and this plug-in recreates it perfectly. I could honestly re-record most everything from Joshua Tree to War albums and a whole slew of 80’s guitar tones with this plug in. If your song requires those sounds, this is it.
Where the plug in is superior to the rack unit is the tempo sync feature and the ease of routing. Having this available in an instant for vocals, snares, synth pads, etc., is fantastic. It’s added a bunch of cool character to my mixes. I’ve been using this less on guitar and more on other instruments. That was never an option in the past because of the cost, programming and maintenance of the rack unit.
The only thing that could make this plug-in more authentic would be a couple of burned out lights on the display. Now, if UA would just do a Korg A3 plug-in.... ;-)

Nice old Delay
It's great, easy to use and although I never owned the original unit I cant imagine it differs much from it.
